  1. A quotation from Sinclair Lewis

“But honestly, you know — horrible things do happen, thanks to the imperfection of human nature, but you can forgive the means if the end is a rejuvenated nation that —”
“I can do nothing of the kind! I can never forgive evil and lying and cruel means, and still less can I forgive fanatics that use that for an excuse! [… A] country that tolerates evil means — evil manners, standards of ethics — for a generation, will be so poisoned that it never will have any good end.”

  2. The most important observation is a ginger cat walking across the driveway in the center of the image. There are no people, vehicles, or packages visible, and nothing unusual is apparent beyond the cat and the usual neighborhood elements like the trash bins, tree, and inflatables in the yard. The scene appears calm and typical for a residential area at early morning.

  3. Chaos Storms gravitate towards Order. Two of my favorite stories, The Neverending Story and The Longest Journey, featured this, Chaos, The Nothing, etc. Many times I've attempted to find a quiet place to avoid Chaos. However, we need Chaos and Order in balance. The universe was born in Absolute Chaos and it will die in Absolute Order.
At W.L.Gore I would arrange the Styrofoam cups in even stacks. The agents of Chaos would mess them up simply because they knew it bothered me.
This has no point. Nearly a stream of consciousness thing.
Anyway, you may see more images today.

  4. RE: mas.to/@RevPudDudley/117506731

    OH JESUS CHRIST
Look at AP there, saying "Oh it's probably nothing"

  5. Meditate? Why not. It's better than sitting around doing nothing.

  6. You shipped the feature, fixed the bugs, and answered the "quick question" that turned into a two-hour debugging session. The invoice went out on the first of the month. Thirty days later: nothing.

The most I have ever waited on was $4,800. The client answered every message within a day - "accounts is processing it", "the approver is on holiday", "next Friday, promise". What got it paid was not a longer or angrier email. It was the third email in a sequence I already had sitting in my drafts folder, sent on day 30, worded almost exactly like the one below. The money arrived in 48 hours.

If you freelance or run a small dev shop, chasing payment for finished work is one of the worst parts of the job. The fix is not a better apology for asking. It is a process: the same three emails, on the same days, every time.

    Here they are, copy-paste.

    Day 7: the polite nudge

At seven days past the due date, assume a boring explanation. The invoice was missed, routed to the wrong person, or stuck in an approval queue. Your goal is a response without friction.

Subject: Quick follow-up on invoice #[NUMBER]

    Hi [CLIENT NAME],

I'm following up on invoice #[NUMBER] for [PROJECT/DELIVERABLE], which was due on [DUE DATE].

Could you confirm that it's been received and let me know when I can expect payment?

For reference, the outstanding amount is [AMOUNT].

    Thanks,
    [YOUR NAME]

Why this works: you identify the invoice, state the amount, and ask for one specific next step. No accusation, no essay.

Send it in the original invoice thread so the context travels with it. If they reply with a payment date, write it down. A promise in a casual email is easy to forget - yours and theirs.

    Day 14: the firm follow-up

Two weeks late, be more direct. This message says the balance needs attention; it does not ask whether anyone saw your last email.

Subject: Payment overdue - invoice #[NUMBER]

    Hi [CLIENT NAME],

Invoice #[NUMBER] for [AMOUNT] was due on [DUE DATE] and remains unpaid.

Please confirm the scheduled payment date by [RESPONSE DEADLINE].

If payment has already been processed, please disregard this reminder and let me know so I can update my records.

    Thank you,
    [YOUR NAME]

Why this works: it replaces a vague request with a clear action and a deadline, and it gives the client an easy out if payment is already moving.

Set the response deadline at two business days. If the answer is "waiting for approval," ask when approval is expected. If "accounting pays on Fridays," ask which Friday your invoice is scheduled for. Turn "we'll get to it" into something you can track.

Check your contract before this email. If it allows late fees, interest, or pausing work, know the terms before you invoke them. Never add fees the contract does not mention.

These templates are communication examples, not legal advice. Check your contract and applicable local law before adding late fees or taking collection action.

    Day 30: the final notice

A month overdue changes the conversation. Stay polite, but do not send a third email that sounds like the first one.

Subject: Final payment notice - invoice #[NUMBER]

    Hi [CLIENT NAME],

Invoice #[NUMBER] for [AMOUNT], originally due on [DUE DATE], remains outstanding despite my previous follow-ups.

Please arrange payment in full by [FINAL DEADLINE] or contact me by that date to confirm a concrete payment arrangement.

If the balance remains unpaid and I have not received an agreed resolution, I will consider the next steps available under our agreement and applicable law, which may include formal collection or recovery proceedings.

Please confirm receipt of this notice.

    Regards,
    [YOUR NAME]

Why this works: it is factual, it documents the history, and it sets an explicit deadline without threats you cannot carry out.

Only name actions you are genuinely prepared and legally entitled to take. Before formal recovery, review your agreement, preserve the invoices and correspondence, and check the rules in the relevant jurisdiction. And do not assume you can shut down a live service, revoke access, or withhold source code - your contract decides that, not your frustration.

What happens between the emails matters as much

    1. Keep a payment log. Invoice number, amount, due date, reminder dates, responses, promised dates. The day you have three late invoices, this log is the only thing keeping the story straight.
    2. Separate payment from new work. A client who has not paid asking for another feature is not an automatic yes. Review the agreement and discuss a pause or revised schedule.
    3. Make paying easy. Every email includes the invoice, the amount, payment instructions, and the reference their accounting needs. Every extra step is another week.
    4. Fix the next contract. Explicit payment terms, a defined invoicing schedule, a stated late-fee rule. For larger projects, milestone payments instead of one big invoice at the end.
    5. Do not let one client be your whole business. A great relationship is still a financial risk if one unpaid invoice stops you paying your own bills.

Build the system before you need it

The best time to decide how you handle late payment is before an invoice goes overdue. Set three calendar reminders for days 7, 14, and 30, save the scripts as templates, and when the day comes you fill in the brackets and send. You follow a process instead of writing an email while frustrated.

Your turn: what is worse - clients who ignore reminders, clients who keep promising "next week," or clients who dispute the invoice after the work is done? And what actually worked for you?

  7. The video of the talk we gave in May has finally been published!

The talk was titled "But I Have Nothing To Hide! Or How Big Techs and States made you believe so" and was presented at VLCTechFest in Valencia, Spain.

    youtube.com/watch?v=aca5EQ9RClQ

    (or via Invidious: https://
    invidious.tiekoetter.com/watch?v=aca5EQ9RClQ)

    Its description was as follows:

"Data collection has become something that is hard to avoid in our modern societies. From telemetry to sensible personal data, many companies and even state actors rely on it for carrying out their operations. But is it really an issue? After all, I have nothing to hide.

What if I tell you that women were persecuted in the USA because they played to Candy Crush or used Tinder, and that their location data were sold to law enforcement which now criminalises people going to abortion clinics in some states? Or that it isn’t that difficult to figure out the real identity of spies with publicly sold data for little money? And when the data isn’t already available, state actors don’t hesitate to hack their own population, including in democratic countries like France and Spain.

Data collection has tangible impacts on our societies and democracies. Whether it’s for making business profits or controlling its own population while weakening adversary countries, the goal is the same: control. And with the current AI trend, data collection is reaching unprecedented highs.

So, what can we do about it in 2026? Thankfully, many technical and legal solutions exist, and we all have a role to play in it. Whether you are an entrepreneur, someone involved into the creation of a software, or a simple user, your choices can have a positive impact."

If you happen to watch it, let us know what you think.

No murder mystery. Not really any Poe either aside from a few couplets as bookends.

It’s set in Arkham. I have a question about the critters in the opening credits, but won’t ask it.

  17. All models, including large models such as Claude Sonnet, can have a limited context window. The context window is nothing but everything the model can see in one call.

Larger models can have a relatively bigger context window compared to smaller models. A bigger context size can hold more history compared to a smaller one.

We are going to see how we can manage the context size, regardless of the model's context size.

Generally, all conversation history will be stored in the local machine's RAM. As RAM size is limited, we cannot store all the history. So, we can calculate the tokens that are going to be stored in the RAM approximately using a package called count_tokens_approximately.

    messages : 4
    tokens used : 87
    room left : 6913
turn 5: this call = 287 tokens, all calls so far = 1035 tokens
turn 20: this call = 887 tokens, all calls so far = 10140 tokens
turn 50: this call = 2087 tokens, all calls so far = 55350 tokens

So, we need to plan the budget for the context ahead. Instead of reacting when the window is full, decide in advance how much room each part gets:

    WINDOW = 8_000
    BUDGET = {"system": 0.05, "memories": 0.10, "retrieved": 0.35, "history": 0.40, "reserve": 0.10}

Here, we can define that the system can occupy 5% of the total usage. Likewise, memories contain important facts/information about the particular user, retrieved chunks are retrieved from RAG, and recent history/conversation is stored as part of the context.

Set an alarm when we reach the allotted memory usage so we can take action before overflow. What type of action can we take? We can trim the history, clear the old tool outputs, and perform summarization for the conversation.

Trimming - drops whole messages until the history fits. It can trim either at the end, beginning, or middle.

Clear the old tool outputs - keep the newest tool output in full and replace older ones with a one-line placeholder. Keep the same tool_call_id, so the AI message that asked for the tool still has its answer.

Summarization - trimming forgets. A rolling summary compresses the old part into a short note, so facts survive. For summarization, we will use a low-cost LLM. The prompt used for summarization tells what to keep: names, numbers, decisions, and preferences.

Choose the actions from the cheapest fix first, which means first try to clear the old tool outputs. If that is not sufficient, then move to trimming and then summarization, and store the whole history in long-term memory.#ai #agents #llm #software #coding #development #engineering #inclusive #community

So Jennie stayed over last night, it was nice to snuggle with this cute little girl as I fell asleep. To head off any perverts, we both wore
#pajamas and nothing untoward happened. This morning we got up early, showered and had #GlutenFree cereal with #LactoseFree milk. Then we got dressed and her mom came by to pick her up. I'm babysitting her again tonight. Jennie had a gymnastics competition this afternoon, which is why she didn't just spend the whole day with me. I hope she did well ❤️ especially since I'm a #gymnast myself 😉.
She should be coming over in about 20 minutes. I've got more anime for us to watch, I'm thinking something from

  21. Wanna see something funny? We recently went around and looked for Fursuits on Amaz0n ~ just for fun. I expected some stolen pictures as usual and wanted to backwards search them.

    Nothing showed up.

Even tho the characters were clearly way too professional looking for the advertised price of around 500€ - which, even when using cheap materials (which they clearly did not in the pictures) would barely cover the material costs.

So we have Pictures of a really elobarate Fursuit and all the backwards search leads only back to the Amazon Marketplace, with the seller coming from somewhere in China.

So what happens if I ask an AI (Gemini) if it can improve the picture of a cheap Fursuit?

The first one is a picture of the suit you usually will get if you buy it for 500€ in china.
(I found this somewhere on Facebook after I googled "Temu Fursuit, but I can provide the Link if someone is interested)

And this is how it looks after I told the AI to improve it.
It took 3 different prompts to tell it step by step to improve the body, the head and the paws, however it was disturbingly easy. And the final pic just looks like a genuine suit.
So in conclusion I'd say: backwards-search for scammers probably is a thing of the past.

Oh and just for the bots out there that look for references to the Middle Kingdom #freetibet and #Taiwanisacountry

This is what we will see a lot of upcoming as MAGA realizes that Trump as CYRUS who was supposed to save their world was nothing more than a corrupted CYRUS.

"Some white evangelical Christians and MAGA supporters compare Donald Trump to King Cyrus the Great, the ancient Persian king from the Bible's Book of Isaiah (Chapters 44 and 45).

    Key Reasons for the Comparison

    • The "Imperfect Vessel" Framework: Cyrus was not an Israelite or a believer in the Hebrew God, yet the biblical text describes him as God's "anointed" instrument used to accomplish a divine purpose. Supporters use this to justify Trump’s personal flaws, controversial behavior, or lifestyle, arguing that God can use an imperfect, secular leader to achieve righteous goals.

    • Delivering Pro-Faith and Israel Policies: In the Bible, Cyrus freed the Jews from Babylonian exile and allowed them to rebuild their temple. Proponents draw a direct parallel to Trump’s political achievements for conservative Christians and Israel, such as moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, recognizing the Golan Heights, brokering Middle East accords, and appointing conservative judges to overturn abortion rights
