  2. The seekers were put off by the curse and tried to find the street we hid on by searching for it in Nagold for the next two hours which only played into our hands. At 20:00 the first game day ended and we met up in the hotel to enjoy the remaining evening together. We resumed the game at 08:00 the next morning and about 45 minutes into day 2 it became clear they identified our location as they were getting closer and closer. After 10 hours, 6 minutes and 55 seconds the seekers finally found us. We were smiling and laughing at them while they were out of breath after ascending fast into the woods. Some time bonuses extended our time to 11 hours, 37 minutes and 36 seconds. A strong start!

We switched sides and it was our turn to hunt them down. We started the search at 12:26 that day with an 80 km radar and they were outside of it. By asking "does your nearest commercial airport match ours and ours is Stuttgart" (answer: nope) we further narrowed down the area. We decided to take the bus towards the Gäubahn line and departed for Herrenberg. The time on the bus was effectively used for a 5 km thermometer and the answer was "colder". Upon our arrival in Herrenberg we knew we should move our sights to the south. The waiting time in Herrenberg was used by asking for a Strava map. Shortly before we entered RE 87 to Singen with the goal of dropping another radar in Spaichingen we received a text: "Curse of the Post Office". We boarded the train nonetheless but left at Horb to write the letter. We had to spend 70 minutes in Horb waiting for the next RE 87 but at least we enjoyed a beer in the sun while writing the letter (we asked for a photo of the tallest building visible from train station). While we were at it we asked for another photo of a park to which they replied "not possible" - interesting!

With this info in mind we started searching the remaining hiding zones for parks and identifying the Strava map in a packed RE 87. While going through Spaichingen we finally dropped the 40 km radar and the hiders were again outside of it.

  13. Now:

Seeker of Hidden Truths looked over the crew of the Athena again, sensing their confusion, and then looked up at the council.

"They are traders. Honest in their dealings. They planned a shortcut to Ikrundi. They suspect the raiders were rival traders, or sent by the same."

Alaine stared at the young woman, how did she know all this? He glanced at the Captain. She looked just as shocked and confused.

"And us?" one of the men on the Council asked.

"They know nothing. Some believe we are a secret division of their Scouts," Seeker paused and grinned, "On account of the shipsuit designs."

"Which they now know to be not the case, Seeker."

"Elder, they would know soon enough anyway" Seeker's voice sounded defensive.

A different person spoke up, a woman this time, "Complex Tunnels, you know that this would be the case. No need to admonish Seeker. Especially not in front of visitors. What is your determination, Seeker?"

"I think we should repair their ship, for a fair price, and allow them to trade. "

Alaine was running out of amazement - they were just going to let them go?

She continued "However," Alaine's relief collapsed, "the Scouts have left us even more alone, now that we can defend ourselves. We need news of the wider universe."

The old woman's voice sounded amused as it asked "And your solution?"

"We require them to return at least twice in a standard year. And one of us should travel with them, to represent our interests."

The old man, Complex Tunnels, broke in "Ha! The fruit does not fall far from the tree, does it now, Joy? Now, my fellow councillors - do we agree with this course, that young Seeker has set?"

There was a pause, and Joy spoke again "We are agreed. You intend to be that representative, Seeker?"

    "Yes, Elder."

"I see I owe Complex Tunnels a brace of pack horses. Very well. Captain?"

    "Yes?"

"Seeker will escort you and your crew back to your ship, and we will send an engineering team to quote. We do not use your credit system, so you will have to barter from your cargo to pay."

"Do we get any say in this?" the Captain asked.

"To be frank, Captain, no. You trespassed on our system, albeit without knowledge of us. You know this to be fair."

"It would have been nice to have the illusion of choice, at least," she grumbled.

"Oh, Captain!" Joy laughed "We despise untruth here. However, I invite you and your First Mate to join my family for dinner tonight. I think you and Charlie will get on marvellously. Seeker will mess with your crew, they will need to get to know one another before you depart."

  14. Are we overcomplicating trauma healing?

In my latest blog, I explore a question that’s been bothering me as I continue to work on my own healing and my studies in counselling.
Have we layered so many techniques, spiritual ideas, and metaphors onto trauma treatment that we’ve lost sight of the fundamentals?

When you dig into the neuroscience, trauma appears less like “energy stored in the body” and more like dysregulated brain networks and fear memories.
What if the most powerful elements of healing are still the basics of emotional regulation, safe memory processing, and a validating therapeutic relationship?

A critical reflection on EMDR, somatic approaches, and the common factors that actually drive recovery.
