I made my therapist snort.
We were doing the Adverse Childhood Experiences survey, and she was saying that we know I'll get a high total because we know that I've lived through a lot of these things.
Me:
..and I'm an overachiever.She chuckled, then it looked like she stopped and really thought about what I said, then she snort-laughed and said "that's really funny!"

My therapist wants me to create a timeline of memories, and to aim at including the best 10 memories and the 20 worst memories.
The thing is... I don't know what a best/worst memory is.
Is a worst memory the one that I feel worst while remembering, or is it the one that had the most awful impact on my life? Because I disassociate a LOT, so the memories I have that someone might decide are the worst moments of my life, I feel kind of neutral and numb about.

"Die Psychotherapiemethode Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) gilt nun auch für Kinder und Jugendliche mit Posttraumatischer Belastungsstörung als wissenschaftlich anerkannt. Das geht aus einem Nachgutachten des Wissenschaftlichen Beirats Psychotherapie hervor, das am 9. März 2026 beschlossen wurde.
Grundlage ist eine inzwischen ausreichende Zahl methodisch hochwertiger Studien. Neu berücksichtigt wurde eine Untersuchung, die eine Wirksamkeit der Therapie noch sechs Monate nach Behandlungsende belegt. Bereits seit 2006 gilt EMDR bei Erwachsenen als wissenschaftlich anerkannt; die sozialrechtliche Anerkennung durch den Gemeinsamer Bundesausschuss folgte 2014.
Damit #EMDR auch bei gesetzlich versicherten Kindern und Jugendlichen regulär angewendet und abgerechnet werden kann, ist nun eine eigene Methodenbewertung durch den Gemeinsamen Bundesausschuss erforderlich."

CW: Mental Health, EMDR Therapy
Finished my 7th #EMDR session in 6 weeks today. Will take a break after this as I find a new therapist. Loved my therapist; she’s closing her practice to take a new job with the VA.
I’ve noticed a difference and I hope to continue seeing gains long term.
The immediate side effects from reliving trauma suck: muscle tension, fatigue, emotional sensitivity, light headedness and dizziness. Passes about about 72 hours though.

Day 5 of being off of Trazodone after a month long taper. First time I’ve felt mostly normal in over 2 months.
4 sessions of #EMDR in the books, really getting to my core wounds now. Tough work.
Beginning to do the tough work of healing from #codependency.
I always thought knowledge and awareness of trauma and mental health would spare me pain. But I’m beginning to realize some things are just painful, and healing takes time.

Did my second session of #EMDR today. It’s such a different mode of #therapy compared to #CBT or #TalkTherapy or #GroupTherapy I’ve done in the past.
I’m very hopeful this will help resolve the emotional rollercoaster I’ve been on in adulthood and get back to living the life I want to live.

Started #EMDR #therapy on Monday. It’s completely different than any other therapy I’ve done. I didn’t go too deep into #trauma from my past, but it was still emotionally taxing.
Taking a 6-week leave of absence from work. Only 2 days left until that starts. Need time and space to find myself and get grounded. The last 2 months have been so intense.

Therapy actually wasn't a shit show.
I wanted to talk about the anxiety I was feeling about visiting Greg in January, particularly around food and body image. It's something that I noticed last time I visited - his wife does keto and is very strict about it, and I found that was triggering for me and raising all these fears and anxieties that he would see what I was eating and judge me for that.
We talked about how I can feel the dissonance between what I believe with my logical thoughts and what deep wounds I was carrying from childhood.
We talked about things I can do more short term to help make sure I enjoy my time with Greg, and then also made plans to start EMDR when I get back to reprocess some of the trauma I carry around food and my body.

TL;DR: My wife is a queer-/kink-/poly-friendly licensed therapist focusing on sex, religious trauma, and transgender care in North Carolina and is accepting new clients.
Jalan practices mental health counseling in Durham--and soon, Charlotte--North Carolina, and telehealth throughout the state.
Her primary focus is sex therapy, and she also works with general mental health concerns (including being trained in EMDR) and a second emphasis in religious trauma. She also has training, though not the specialist certificate, in addictions. She is especially open to queer, kinky, and poly clients (being all of those herself), and is a certified Transgender Care Therapist.
She is not in insurance networks, but will help with out-of-network filing and has limited sliding-scale slots.
I'm happy to put anyone in touch.

As my mental health has improved greatly over about five years of steady talk therapy, EMDR, DBT and who knows what else, (CBT can take a hike. At least for me.) my therapy sessions have slowly shifted from how can I not be in constant crisis and anguish to "expert, please explain why the person is like this." I mean, autism is probably part of it for me, but aren't we all constantly wondering that?

Just completed #EMDR session No 3. Still struggling to imagine a safe place. Amazing thing is we're in a Tibetan Buddhist centre so next time I will go an hour early & meditate in the shrine room prior to my appointment to calm me the hell down. I need an off switch for my parasympathetic nervous system.

Well the retired woman I saw is qualified in #emdr (whether than means anything really is up for grabs I asked to see qualifications. In an unregulated mental health industry it's all smoke and mirrors really). So will be seeing how it goes. Next appointment is next week.
