  2. Friday thought: Not every season is about pushing harder.

Some seasons are about maintenance, reflection, and preparing for what’s next.

If you’re ending the year tired, uncertain, or in transition — that’s okay.
    Momentum doesn’t always look loud.

Wishing everyone a steady, low-stress weekend.

  3. Friday Reflections:

Someone gave me great advice recently:
Each night: shut off your phone, meditate, take a hot bath, and fall asleep with an audiobook.

It’s simple, but it’s helped me wind down, rest deeper, and reset for the next day.

IT work (and life) can be chaotic. But the quiet moments, the ones we choose to protect, make all the difference.

What’s one habit that helps you recharge?

  4. Question for my fellow IT pros:

What’s one small thing you’ve done that made your systems noticeably more secure or stable?

Could be an alias, a config tweak, a tool, or a habit.
Sometimes it’s not the big overhauls that save the day but the five-minute fixes.

I’ll start: teaching students how to lock down SSH access properly has saved me hours of future troubleshooting.

  5. Burnout doesn’t always come from too much work. Sometimes it’s from carrying too much weight in the background. Between ongoing parenting hurdles and the usual chaos of life, I’ve learned how important it is to pause and protect your bandwidth.

This weekend, I’m planning to unplug (a little), recharge, and remind myself that progress isn’t just professional ! It’s personal.

How are you keeping burnout at bay lately?

  6. Between teaching Linux networking, recording new episodes, and keeping my own systems patched, it’s been one of those “busy but good” weeks.

Sometimes the win isn’t finishing everything — it’s keeping momentum without burning out.

What’s one small win you’re carrying into the weekend?

  7. When you spin up a new Linux server, what’s the first thing you do after login?

Update packages? Create a new user and disable root login? Install your favorite tools?

For me, it’s usually setting up #Ansible access!

    What’s your ritual?

  9. Midweek question for my fellow IT pros:
What’s one old-school piece of tech or process you secretly miss?
Floppy disks? Physical install media? Walking a USB stick across the datacenter? 😅

  16. A day late, but it’s time for an #introduction

Hi! I’m an IT guy, working mostly with #MECM to get OS builds, patches, software, etc out to a 30k+ device financial services environment.

I enjoy spending time with my wife and our two boys, playing video games (poorly), reading, hiking, golf, and the list goes on.

Enough about me. I’m looking forward to seeing how Mastodon evolves as time goes as on. See you in the Fediverse!

  17. #Biden: look, nothing can be done about the farce that was #2020Election. Biden can be #impeached NOW, but legislation MUST be put in place to vet CANDIDATES for the #incestuous mess that is #HunterBiden & #BidenCrimeFamily. Move on and PROTECT AMERICA from this happening again.

    We’ll cover:
    • When Rocky Linux community support is enough
    • When compliance & SLAs matter
    • What RLC Pro actually includes

Join Brady Dibble and me tomorrow.

  20. I just found out you don’t need to reserve seven racks for SAP just to keep the support contract from some German TLA IBM spinoff. My inner IT guy is crying and laughing at the same time.

All those server racks locked up for SAP—and you can’t even touch them or break the contract. The dream: those SAP racks finally gone, support contracts less scary, and you actually get to use your server room for, well, things that matter.

When you realize you're not the only one who lost server real estate to SAP contracts, there’s this quiet satisfaction in knowing it’s finally getting fixed.

Find out more about SAP in Episode 6 of IT Horror Stories with Jack Smith : SAP Happens.

  21. @Downshift: Such data collection and misuse is one of the reasons why I love my #2CV. It hasn't any electronics ex factory. The only electronics in it are the gadgets I have added myself. It has no AI, no cameras, no ears. Maybe a soul, though. 😉 (And I do say that as an IT guy. An IT security guy, though, including occupational paranoia. 😎)

Oh, and not even my #EV has such crap. But it's an #oldtimer, too, as it's a #MiniEL/#CityEL from the early '90s: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CityEl

  22. Productivity tip that changed my week:
    I block 60 minutes for “non-reactive work.”

No Slack. No email. No “quick question.” Just building.

Your best work rarely happens in notification mode.

  23. @STACKS In supporting & FUNDING Gain Of Function virological research in places like Wuhan, China, Dr #Fauci is positioning himself to be America's Dr. Mengele. #FireFauci

  24. The #COVID #vax cards being given out at this time ARE NOT LEGAL DOCUMENTS, and examples of field content can be found everywhere. Get one; feel free to fill it in as you see fit. You aren't breaking any laws because THEY'RE NOT LEGAL DOCUMENTS. #COVIDhysteria #FireFauci #TakeBackAmerica

  25. Now that #Quebec is seizing the #GiveSendGo funding for the truckers, what's needed is for a large group of contributors to set up a make-shift #Hawala money-trading network up there. Give out money from one person to another. Don't use online; don't use crypto (silly idea); pass cash by hand from contributors. Set up your own donation portal, remove the funds hourly, and pass it out.

  26. We’re continuing our coverage of troubleshooting common Linux problems! This week we’ll dive into the tools and steps involved with networking.
