@koen_hufkens What I find even more interesting and irritating is how an #ngo like #worldbicyclerelief makes a business out of #charity. "It’s the American way of doing development work. Loud and inefficient and self-aggrandizing, polished and big money. [K]now that if you give #wbr some money, a child will be helped to get to school. But also know that about 60% of that money goes to overhead, and over 2% goes straight into a millionaire CEO’s already very deep pockets." #bicycle #bikepacking

@edzer at the department we try to build infrastructure which is easy to deploy across scales.
What I find in lots of my work is that you want to leverage the frameworks on smaller problems as well (or those that are large in size, not in compute for #dataviz).
This means that it should work locally (small scale), as well as it would remotely (big services). #Pangeo + #OpenEo (interfacing) + #dataviz? will go a long way I think. Maybe someone as already setup a countainer?

I wonder what the place of the #fediverse and the #SmallWeb is in #science. I feel much tooling is gravitating toward big cloud platforms, which at times can mean vendor lock in (especially when considering geospatial platforms such as #GEE or similar). Although there are efficiency gains due to economies of scale, is there space for small modular geospatial platforms, and what would this look like? #Pangeo comes near, but not quite I feel. @edzer

At the #PublicSpaces conference there was a session on 'Growth and Sustainability of the Open Social Web' where I asked Rose Wang from #Bluesky a question about the $100M on VC funding.
Apparently it is a '3 year runway' that can pay for (only) 40 people and other expenses. Sounds like half a million dollar salary to me per person to me.
The other interesting part I got from this is that "they are focused on growth" and that is all. Where can I find the investors that are willing to pay millions and only have me focus on growth?
