  2. A Week in Lara Croft’s Boots

“Somewhere between the life we live and the life we imagine, there is an adventure waiting to be found.” 🌍🏹

If I could switch lives with a fictional character for just one week, I already know who I would choose.

    Lara Croft.

Funny thing is, I didn’t have to think very long about it.

Give me seven days of ancient temples, forgotten civilizations, mysterious maps, hidden passages, impossible landscapes, and adventures that begin with, “I wonder what’s behind that door.” 🗿🌏

I don’t necessarily want her life forever. I just want to borrow it for a week.

I want to wake up somewhere I’ve never been before, put on my boots, grab a backpack, and head into the unknown without knowing exactly where the road will take me.

Maybe that’s what attracts me to Lara Croft.

    It isn’t really the action.

It isn’t the weapons or the danger or the dramatic jumping from one collapsing ruin to another.

    It’s the curiosity.

She keeps going because there is something out there she hasn’t seen yet.

And perhaps that’s why the character feels strangely familiar to me.

I’ve always been drawn to places I haven’t been, stories I haven’t heard, roads I haven’t taken. Travel, for me, has never been just about arriving somewhere. It’s about collecting little pieces of the world along the way.

    A street in Bangkok.

    A quiet café.

A forgotten corner of a temple.

    A mountain road.

A waterfall hidden somewhere in Thailand.

A thrift shop where I find something I didn’t know I was looking for.

A conversation with a stranger that somehow stays with me.

Maybe I don’t need to be Lara Croft.

Maybe I already have my own version of her life.

My adventures just don’t usually involve ancient traps.

    Well… not yet. 😂

If I had Lara’s life for one week, I think I’d spend the first day being completely overwhelmed by the adventure.

By the second day, I’d probably be asking where the nearest coffee shop is.

By the third, I’d be taking photographs.

By the fourth, I’d be writing everything down.

And by the seventh, I’d probably be wondering how to turn the whole experience into a story.

Because that’s the thing about me.

I don’t just want to experience life.

    I want to remember it.

I want to document the places I’ve been, the people I’ve met, the things that made me laugh, the moments that surprised me, and even the seasons that broke my heart.

Perhaps that’s why fictional characters fascinate us.

Sometimes we don’t want to become them.

Sometimes they simply remind us of a part of ourselves that is already there.

    The adventurous part.

    The curious part.

    The fearless part.

The part that still wants to open the next door even after life has taught us that some doors are better left closed.

So yes, if someone handed me a magical remote control and said:

“You have one week. Choose your fictional life.”

    I’d choose Lara Croft.

    I’d pack light.

    I’d bring my camera.

I’d find the oldest map I could.

And, of course, I’d bring coffee.

Because even the greatest adventurers need caffeine.

    And who knows?

Maybe somewhere between the ancient ruins and the hidden treasures, I’d discover something much more valuable than a lost civilization.

I’d discover another version of myself.

And when the week was over, I’d come home…

    and write about it.

Because some journeys are too good to simply live.

    They have to be remembered.

    Something ancient is waiting ahead…

  12. Incredible costume work for the interlude shiny challenge, with only boxes, paper plates, duct tape and a piece of flexible duct. A pokemon, a famous robot and Lara Croft! 😆

The evening was very fun, and I had a unique occasion to tell a story about my trip in #Japan to a Japanese teacher sitting in front of me, which lead to a lovely conversation. I had found a mask of a character from #Anpanman (Baikinman) on the ground at the time and had no idea who it was until I recognized it on the screen tonight 😄, at which point she screamed "It's Japanese!" to the confused contestants (it made sense in context 😆).
