  1. A comparison between primary (unlogged) and managed forest plots in Sweden found that the primary forests stored 72% more carbon than the managed forests. Most of the differential is soil carbon. This is 2.7 to 8 times larger than previously thought.

  2. The most underreported environmental story: global forest cover is increasing in Europe, North America, and East Asia. Not because we got virtuous — because we got urban. Density saves wilderness.

We have basalt in Aotearoa, right? Maybe we need to be importing tech from Iceland for more than just geothermal electricity generation?

But I agree with everyone else you say there. There are a multitude of things we could be doing that the neither NatACT First nor the Hipkins clownshow are likely to support.

Instead of just reducing emissions, we can now remove CO2 directly from the atmosphere using advanced #CarbonRemovalTechnology.

A key step toward achieving #NetZero emissions and building scalable #SustainableTechnology solutions.

A ‘shocking’ carbon discovery in #Sweden’s forests
A new study finds old-growth #forests in Sweden store far more #carbon than the industrial tree plantations that are rapidly replacing them, with #soil accounting for most of the difference.

So I heard a report about this today, and what this site isn't saying (not the exxon/mobile site) is the probability of leakage in the old wells. There was a bad leak in Mississippi a few years back and it could have been deadly, and still presents lingering effects.

One guess as to where they want the storage places to be and it isn't in wealthy neighborhoods like Bedminster or Mar a Lago.

The report was on Latino USA on NPR and I urge anyone to go listen and read more about it. The oil and gas corporations are behind this, and now Trump is all about oil and gas so this isn't going away.

Fig trees convert atmospheric #CO2 to stone

Some species of #figTrees store #calciumCarbonate in their trunks – essentially turning themselves (partially) into stone, new research has found. The team of Kenyan, U.S., Austrian, and Swiss scientists found that the trees could draw carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere and store it as calcium carbonate ‘rocks’ in the surrounding soil.

  24. Friendly reminder that the ✨BEST CARBON CAPTURE AND STORAGE CCS✨ is fossil fuels. It will store carbon safely for millions of years. Just leave it in the ground. You don't have to rack your brains then to invent complicated technologies to fish back CO2 molecules from the athmosphere with no guarantee for long term safe storage. It's easy. You're welcome.
