  2. Spontaneously, I decided to write down my thoughts on another writers’ writing process. Isn’t that funny that what works for one person can sound like an utter nightmare to another?

  4. The Blank Page and an Unexpected Conversation

I didn't start using Claude because I was excited about artificial intelligence. I started because I was staring at a blank page and needed someone to help me think. The first time felt surprisingly ordinary. I typed a few scattered thoughts, expecting little more than a quick answer. Instead, it felt like someone had quietly taken the jumble in my head and helped me see what I was trying to say. What did I feel after my first interaction with Claude? Relief, unease or both? Mostly […]

  8. AI Bans Are Here. I Told You So. Now Let’s Talk About Why This Is Bad.

I said it before. I said it on this very blog, on Interfaith Intrepid, back when folks were still treating artificial intelligence like it was some kind of science fiction novelty that only tech bros in San Francisco cared about. I said that the AI bans were coming, and I said that they were not going to look the way people thought they were going to look. They were not going to be principled stands against corporate overreach or thoughtful regulatory frameworks designed to protect everyday […]

  10. Recently someone asked me to describe my writing process. Since I’ve
just started the third book in my mystery series, I don’t know that I
have anything resembling a “process” yet. I try something, and if it
doesn’t work I try something else. But there’s been one constant from
    the beginning.

  12. 4/5 Try to work past your writer's block for a full hour.
Brainstorm, write down questions, shuffle post-it notes. Stare into the wall. Pace through the room like a Sherlock Holmes.
    Be dramatic.

  13. 2/5 Clear out your desk from distractions. Leave only your creative tools in front of you. Switch off the internet.
My creative tools look like this (thankfully, Scrivener does not require a Wi-Fi connection):

  16. 1/ I wrote my first stories in Microsoft Word. And have given up on it ages ago, and what they are doing with Office365 only cemented this decision.

What writing tools have you discarded?

After nearly a decade of slog, Philip A. Suggars can finally see his weird fantasy novel in book stores - and he's still getting used to it! The Lighthouse at the End of the World is out now through Titan.

  20. WHY I APPROVE ALL COMMENTS ON MY BLOGS, EVEN THE ONES THAT DISAGREE WITH ME

There’s a very specific kind of expectation people have when they land on a personal blog in 2026. They assume moderation, they assume curation, they assume that whatever comment section exists has already been filtered through some invisible lens of approval, agreement, or comfort. They assume that if they say something critical, it might disappear. Or if they say something messy, it might get buried. Or if they say something bluntly opposed to the author, it might never even see the light […]

  22. Write Anywhere, Write Everywhere

When my first book came out, I was working full-time, writing, and parenting two kids under three. It was, to say the least, hard to find the time to write. It was also hard to find a place to write.
