    Hey all,

I'm wondering if there's anyone out there who can point me in the eight direction.

I have a VT320 terminal I want to use, but am lacking the MMJ cable -- this is quite common.

I'm not in a position to create one myself, and even then, likely won't be able to connect to a computer without a USB to serial converter anyway.

I'm curious if there's anyone in the UK/Europe who makes these cables, in which case I'm happy to pay for that -- I just don't want to try making this myself, as I don't have the time.

    Any help much appreciated.

  2. Today, I'm using my 1990s HP #Laserjet to print out the schematics for my 1980s #VT320 serial terminal, on 11x17-inch paper from the 2000s, using a #Thinkpad from the 2010s running a #Linux kernel version from the 2020s.

Inspired by this to style a Windows Terminal+PowerShell prompt like a VT320 term using your font and oh-my-posh.

Honestly I spent way too much time making it work, but it does look pretty cool.

The toolbar is an illusion, though - actually part of the prompt. I wish OMP had a way to "pin" a block at the top of the terminal.

(no I won't add the retro terminal effects in WT because it's ugly and annoying)

  5. I’ve never done drugs but I have seen a #VT320 smooth scroll and that’s pretty much the same thing.

  6. :fediverse: Now that there are so many people here, maybe there's a chance:

🖥️ In the 1990s, I used a #MicroVAX II with a #DEC #VT320 #terminal like the one shown here, but with an original black plastic case for both the monitor (white monochrome) and keyboard as sold new by the vendor (Evans & Sutherland).

🔎 Has anyone ever come across one of these with the black case? Surely some of these rare models were saved from the landfill.

  7. My challenge to use my as my main computer (besides phone) for all of September begins tomorrow!

    Suggestions for a tag?

  8. I will try to toot daily my September experience!

All of September--only using a (besides phone).

  9. I'm challenging myself to use my terminal as my main computer (excluding my phone) for all of September.

Should i write blog posts weekly? Or as one big post at the end of the month? Any ideas?

  10. : I'm going to use a terminal as my primary computer for all of September. Development, entertainment, gaming, research, blogging, and more.

    I will document my experience.

I will use my phone, still.

  11. I have a rackmount server I administrate with a terminal. Today I just built and installed my own DAS (basically an overglorified rackmount external HDD enclosure supporting many HDDs) using a spare rackmount server case (which I eventually want to replace in the future, because it's very unfriendly for installing and removing HDDs and cannot hold many).

I was inspired by this guide: serverbuilds.net/16-bay-das

  12. So, I have been working on "PsychDOS" and finally uploaded some of the development logs and updated the docs section of the PsychDOS part of the site (with JS enabled, you can use your keyboard to navigate): psychoslinux.gitlab.io/DOS/IND. No screenshots yet. but there might be soon as I am pretty comfortable with the UI I have, or at least at the moment. #PsychOS #linux #dos #webdesign #vt320 #crt #retro #oldschool

  13. I don't collect vintage tech... I merely accumulate #retrocomputing gear. It turns out I have 9 CRTs in my small retro room. And no Macs.

I think about two of them are CRT monitors (monochrome, naturally). One is a telly. Or maybe two. And one is an oscilloscope. One's a Minitel. One's an #amstrad #pcw ... there might be a #vectrex in there. There's a #vt320 somewhere too.

Oh, yes, and there is a colour CRT monitor too.

  14. I haven't been doing much lately, but what I have done is hook up my to my server so I can use it as a programming, IRC, and more device! I'll send a video and some pics soon.
