  1. Did Zhukovsky's Odyssey have metrical "errors" or a hidden poetic design?

This study combines traditional philology + ML clustering to show anomalies cluster in "sea" cantos vs "land" cantos—but no local textual factor predicts them. Intent or oversight remains unresolved.

  6. Does anyone in the #localisation and/or #freelancing bubble here have got any tips for how I would efficiently break out of the "single client" death loop into sustainable client acquisition?

I have been doing this job for several years now and it's been amazing. I'm just afraid of betting everything on one horse. If the agency that hires me most goes under for any reason I lose my livelihood.

My current ideas are in the replies:

  11. There's a fashion for people using automated metrics to evaluate the quality of #interpreting. In this research article, Joss Moorkens and I explain why that doesn't work and what to do instead.

  17. Most of my #writing for education is intended for those already familiar to some extent with professional tools and tasks, particularly for commercial #translation work. But in this free webinar, I'm going back to basics, and examining what independent tools installed locally on our personal equipment offer, and why they still matter in the Online Age.

I'll talk mostly about two such software workspaces, one long familiar to me (memoQ) and another (Scrivener) quite new, and how I use them in my writing projects and translation work. And why these are the best options I've explored.

This talk is intended for experienced wordworkers who may ask why the "old" ways are still relevant, and for aspirants to the multilingual world of words who want a good start, apart from the too-frequent grind of linguistic sausage.

Feel free to share this post and help raise awareness of ways we can move toward better practice at the wordface.

In response to the difficulties that so many people have to find specific solutions from more than two decades of my social media, YouTube and blog contributions, I've launched a new "consolidation project" to tie all the loose threads together and offer current summaries of best practice in the applications of technology for languages and #translation service.
