  1. Massively pleased that the #UK Rail Industry has done a #UTurn on its plans to close #TicketOffices. I submitted a letter to the watchdog about this back in August and I'm really glad the decision was made to keep them - helping those with disabilities ride the trains. They are incredibly important, especially for my job.

  3. Great to see the government has stopped the proposal of ticket prices across the UK.
Disabled people rely on these offices as they are a place to go to and ask for help when using trains. #TicketOffices #Trains

  4. Perhaps searching for good strap lines on local #election leaflets, Mark Harper (#Tory transport secretary) has stepped into to tell train operators they cannot (as part of cost-cutting proposals) close #TicketOffices.

Pressure gorups have received over 750k communications on this issue of which 99% were apparently opposed to the shouting of ticket offices.

Given the also increasingly apparent issue for #disabled passengers & thus likely legal challenge, the UTurn now seemed inevitable!

  12. Train companies in #UK are proposing to close #TicketOffices. This will make life so much harder for vulnerable people, those with disabilities and the elderly.

#Railways are for everyone, and people should be put before profit. Have your say by emailing the address for your local stations train company at the link below.

  14. One thing that hasn't been mentioned (I think) in the UK #TicketOffices closure discussion is the idea of extending their functions.
    Example.
On a recent trip to Liverpool we had to come back by bus. No National Express office in the city. Why not add the function (with adequate staffing) at Lime Street station.
Could also add tourist office functions like accommodation.

  15. In Southampton Railway Station you have to scan your ticket to get on to the platform. If they close the ticket office you need a way that is accessible for you to buy a ticket before you go on to the platform. That's before you get anywhere near a train.

  16. UK TRAIN USERS, I just heard about this - Apparently they're gonna get rid of Train Station Ticket Offices (which'll be devastating for people who can't use tech/machines for whatever reason) - Please sign this petition if you can:

  18. Something I've tried to do over the last week is to find academic research on #TicketOffices; their value, use, #Community impacts etc.

    There is very little.

We need to do more of this sort of research then; amongst other things, it can help us resist the erosion of #publictransport.

  26. Prime example of why we still need rail ticket offices. Ticket machine this morning wouldn't accept my card with the booking ref for a ticket booked on my behalf. Ticket office sorted it instantly.
