I bought USB-C adapter for both of my #Thinkpads, and they do work, but even with a relatively beefy battery bank, it doesn't last a ton of time, and it gets fairly warm. :/

What we need is open source batteries where you buy a PCB from someone, 3d print a case, and plug that in to your thinkpad, and put 18650s in it.

THAT would be ideal.

I've only had two #Thinkpads that take external batteries: my X200t, and this x260.

I actually have three batteries for my X200t. I bought one when I bought the device in 2019, I got one from the guy that did the #Libreboot conversion for me, and I bought another one later on.

They all lasted four hours initially. Now, two of them last literally zero seconds, even in S3 suspend, and I haven't tried the third one lately.

I don't know how to get quality #Thinkpad batteries. :/

I've been thinking of asking @libreleah, though. Any tips, Leah? Know of any trustable vendors for TP batteries? I've had rotten luck with them. :P

Good grief, the third-party external battery I got for this #Thinkpad x260 is only lasting 59 minutes on an 80% charge now. I better do a full charge to calibrate it, but I think it's dying.

Crappy batteries are the scourge of the otherwise delighful experience of buying old #Thinkpads. :P

I really am thinking about buying a couple new batteries from #Lenovo for a current model Thinkpad T-series, and then waiting 5-7 years to buy the actual laptop, used. 😂

I was able to repair all my #ThinkPads myself and it was an absolute joy.
It's also quite easy to find replacement parts, whether for really old devices or newer ones, and you often have the choice between original and affordable replacement parts.
That's what I call valuable and sustainable.

My M4 MBA is having display issues, and I’m potentially in the market for a new laptop. For personal reasons, I’m leaning toward not getting another Mac.

I like #ThinkPads and would like to like #Framework, but I’m skeptical.

I am typing a lot! and I love the ThinkPad keyboard (a lot!), but unfortunately I don’t like their displays (I expect more resolution).

Can anyone tell me anything about the Framework’s keyboard?

@cm @rysiek The #Lenovo chicklet keyboard don't cradle the fingers in place like the old #IBM #thinkpads did.

Wisst ihr, warum ich Thinkpads mag? Weil man sie reparieren kann. Habe ein "defektes" X1 Carbon um 40 € gekauft, neues Mainboard direkt bei Lenovo für 45 €, ausgetauscht und das Gerät ist wie neu.

This week has been full of major improvements to my #Linux setup across my #ThinkPads. I now have:
1. Significantly faster boot times due to quicker #LUKS decryption by separating out #boot and #EFI into separate volumes.
2. Upgrade from #LUKS1 to #LUKS2 (while most of the rest of my setup)
3. Better visuals for LUKS passphrase prompts using (finally) #plymouth

I couldn't have asked for more improvements in barely two days.

@mephisto I was too scared to pick up an #ARM laptop for #Linux! I usually don't need more than ~8h of battery life, and modern laptops (even #thinkpads) don't always have the greatest Linux support anyway, no need to top it off with an ARM CPU.

Have you seen the new Intel's Lunar Lake chips? They are very well suited for notebooks too, despite using the x86 architecture.

@chmod777 for me is a must have a libre open source #bootloader. @system76, @starlabssystems, and @novacustom @purism. are companoes which offers #floss bootloaders for new #laptops. @all are there more ones? I am also want have a new one ;) There are also companies who put this on #Thinkpads. I don't know what u mean with light gaming. For studing, development and coding the horizon should be good.

I fear that a decade from now, even used #Thinkpads will be junk, but for now, they're still pretty nice, especially the 5-year-oldish models. :D

The latest generation #Trackpoint is so shallow that it's physically painful to use, making it pointless.

i have not found it painful, but badly done for sure.

Lenovo has also shown a new model without the feature, not sure how that will go down with business users.

Personally I am not in the market for a new Thinkpad, still plenty of good second hand options available.
