Thanks all! Just ordered a refurbished #t480s. Hope it’s better than the terrible X220 that’s sitting in a drawer. It has an IPS display, so can’t be worse than the TFT on my #x220. 🙂 I’ve got 30 days to try it out, so that’s good.

While writing it, I read the FreeBSD Handbook for the nth time and found some little nuances about USB tethering, X server configuration and so on 🙂

@sumpfsuppe If there is an original keyboard, not an AliExpress sold one, then there are a lot of useful things for repair shops / masters: red nub, trackpoint module itself, key caps and the plastic mechanisms under it.

Especially the caps and underside plastic details — when I broke some keys on my Thinkpad, I found that these details are differ between keyboards. One use in the original keyboard with US-layout, another with UK-layout, etc.

Hat jemand Verwendung für diese defekte X220-Tastatur? Hab sie ersetzt, weil u.a. die Leertaste nicht mehr zuverlässig funktioniert hat.

My Thinkpad died same time ago. I bought another one with defects but working motherboard. Swapped the board and it works as new!

Now configuring my developer platform to have DOS/XP :)

Help me understanding x220 laptop batterys please.

• Battery reported bad by tlp and KDE with low capacity letft.
• Opened battery to bring one pair of cells (parallel) back up to 3,85 V like the other two pairs.
• Battery kind of good again 50% capacity. (4 hours reported yay!)
• Recalibrated with tlp so discharge until "empty"
• Empty seems to mean this capacity value calculated from the inboard chip?
• Voltage of "discharged" battery combined ca 11V, expected like 10V at least. (Full is at 12,5V ish reported by tlp)

Wouldn´t it make sense to discharge to 3,3V per cell then charge it back up and calculate the capacity from that process instead of stopping anywhere in the middle because that assumed capacity is at zero ?

After using other, more modern laptops for quite some time, I almost forgot how great the keyboard on #thinkpad #x220 is

This year, I welcomed a new member of my happy #hardware family – #Lenovo #ThinkPad #X13 G3! ✨💻✨ After long years of dedicated service from my indestructible Lenovo Thinkpad #x220 (it went around the World with me several times and survived plenty of accidents, including falling off the first floor – it continued working like nothing happened), I had to go for an upgrade due to higher software demands. Another Thinkpad was a natural choice. And the good old x220 became my OS testing ground. 🫡️

Many flashes after...
- still no boot image
- VGA blob is also needed for DOS
- I used the clips so many times now it did not want to stay attached
- last flash was done "by hand" keeping secure in place for 5mins...

But I have Free and Open BIOS now ;) Also neutralized IME :>

After two days of fighting I found out that those old scripts wanted python that I do not have. Installing python3-is-python helped!

In theory I have my own X220 firmware here ;)

Can't wait to see the bootsplash in real life.

BTW: clips for flashing this tho the bare metal will arrive on Monday
