It’s finished! We just watched the last episode of The Legend of Shen Li. Absolutely flawless - the acting is excellent, the story was engaging the entire way (and didn’t draw out the misery for too long like I thought they might), the costumes, sets, OST, and FX are gorgeous, and there are just so many memorable moments. 10/10.

Watched the first episode of The Legend of Shen Li tonight. Great start - I can see why so many people have been talking about it.

Finished the Legend of ShenLi. A strand of war simping brings down its final grade, but over all it's highly enjoyable. Recommended!
Now I'm trying out Royal Guard: The Evil Menace. Yes, the plan was Mysterious Lotus Casebook. Unfortunately my wallet said no to an iQIYI pass 😢

Those paper strips are news to me, so I'm probably about to learn a new and interesting tidbit about Chinese culture. But why do I get the feeling this is the c-drama version of strip poker?

Damn it, I can't move on from #TheLegendOfShenLi . The only drama that did that to me was Mysterious Lotus Casebook. Took me weeks to get over that one.
It's a little puzzling cos Shen Li had a lot of flaws that I disliked, but the positives overpowered it. I loved Lin Geng Xin's performance (oddly was warned that he's a bad actor) and loved his character's Xing Zhi's arc so, so much. I resonate with his struggle with loneliness and desire for a simple life with loved ones. -
The blessings of being swept away by a drama after nearly quitting it, and now that you've finished it, realise that there isn't any other xianxia with such a mature main couple with a level-headed approach to love and heavenly responsibilities. Am looking at future xianxia dramas with much trepidation. I doubt they'd have a xianxia like this again for a long, long time.

I nearly dropped this drama, was told that it is really worth it sticking it out, and for the first time, I'm really glad I listened. It's one of the best xianxias I've watched in a long while.

Fenglai is spot on an embodiment of the 'born sexy yesterday' trope. What we see here is his birth, and if my math is right his entire lifespan is one to six months. Also, I have a feeling I've seen this actor before (IMDB isn't helpful so I can't say for sure). He's good, but has a tendency to end up in roles where he drops his clothes for some reason...

They do pay attention to details in this drama! Women who do martial arts and are soldiers should have hands like this; well kept, but no nail polish or overly long nails. (The exception is of course if things like that are the character's style, though that's for another toot.)

Is it just me, or does this actor playing a turtle* actually look like one? I mean, a lot of it is posture to flatten the chin, but still. How do you put _that_ on the merit list? "Excellent turtle looks"?

I can't decide what to comment on! There's this glorious character design of giving lord Furongs topknot decoration* a tiny "antenna". But there's also the distant screams of a costume designer in Heng Dian finding out that production plans to ruin their perfect seams with fake blood.

If I could remember names I'd look up if this actor normally is an idol-drama* actor. He so could pull it off. Fortunately he continues to have A Blast with lord Furong. (Also, against all odds, I want the character's sister goddess Luotian to get a better deal. The actress equally has A Blast, but rn Luotian is just the 'ugly' competing woman who won't get the man.)

Was halfway watching #TheLegendofShenLi which I enjoyed, surprisingly. (I think of the first arc as Meet Yourself, #xianxia version 🤭.) I love our main couple's idyllic countryside life, the cooking scenes. It was a respite from their duties as bigwigs in the heavenly realm.
Most of all, I am liking the fact that we have a mature couple, acted by older actors in a genre dominated by mostly young actors. -
Lord Furong and general Mofang strikes me as an extremely funny ship! They'd get along like a house on fire and gazoline.

The Legend of ShenLi is on my list for best c-drama theme song (the other other one is The Sleuth of The Ming Dynasty). I have no idea who composed the music, but they made suonas sound _fat_ - and that's an achievement with a ~screamy* instrument.

The Legend of ShenLi is obviously a production where someone told the producer:
•good script
•good cgi
•embroideries
_Pick two_And the producer chose the two former. So far I haven't seen _any_ embroideries (maybe I should look for flying pigs?), but the cgi is both good and well acted. This will be interesting!

This is by the same author as Love Between Fairy and Devil (#苍兰诀), Jiu Lu Fei Xiang. She also wrote Back from the Brink (#护心 ) & Love you Seven Times (#七时吉祥).
So there's a certain predictable expectation to her xianxia's, but that's not a bad thing as far as I'm concerned.
There will be trials and tribulations for our lovers, humour and snarky offsiders, romance, and broken hearts. Massive battles and far too many, far too pretty people floating around the scenery.
