TITLE: The mysterious hum heard around the world may finally have an explanation

    URL: sciencedaily.com/releases/2026

The mysterious sound known as The Hum has been reported worldwide for decades, yet its source often remains impossible to find. Researchers tested whether people who hear it have exceptional low-frequency hearing or measurable sounds produced inside their ears, but neither explanation fit most participants. The strongest possibility is that many cases involve low-frequency tinnitus, even though the sound seems completely external.

  4. "Based on our results, although we haven't ruled out cases of physical external sound sources, we suggest that subjective #tinnitus in the low-frequency range is often the cause of hearing pulsations of low-frequency #sound perceptions” #TheHum www.sciencealert.com/mysterious-g...

  8. Autumn in the pass of the two stones for today's #StandingStoneSunday

Bwlch y Ddeufaen is so named for its two impressive monoliths, but there's more going on here; near the eastern stone there's a fan-shape of small standing stones, barely tall enough to see over the reedy grass. Millenia later, Roman soldiers marched through this pass where pylons now stride. The past and present leach into each other here.

    This visit October 2011.

I know people who feel/hear vibrations I do not.

I was reminded of a story by sf writer A E van Vogt, published in 1950, called "The Sound".

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Soun

We live near a major freight line, and get vibration from passing trains several times a day. I hear those.

Once I sat at Plateau Point, listening to the evening hum of the Grand Canyon.

Sometimes we hear best by just sitting in silence.

  15. A Ghostly Nighttime #Hum Is Invading Random Towns. Scientists Don't Know What It Means.

This mysterious buzzing noise is keeping some cities all around the world up all night. So where is it coming from?

  16. TBH, I suspect the origin of the #OmaghHum is electromagnetic pollution of some sort. I can hear/feel electromagnetic currents, though I'm a bit sensitive to that phenomena because of my ASD.

"A mysterious, low-frequency noise has settled over the small town of #Omagh in #NorthernIreland, and is keeping people awake.
It’s called 'The Hum,' and reports of this phenomenon have been popping up all over the world for decades.
Despite numerous experiences with the noise, no one knows what exactly causes it."

Since 1998, scientists have been exploring the “hum of the earth,” or a low frequency sound that some are poetically calling the song of the world. It’s an intriguing concept with multiple dimensions. Does everything have a hum?
