  1. So, I created a little script that will take a #TaskPaper formatted file and create #jira task, complete with sub-tasks and descriptions for each task. I just need to set it up to create the root task inside a project, and I will be happy.

I had to cobble together a parser for TaskPaper, as the current library (which looks awesome, BTW), was throwing a bunch of errors.

  2. GTD is a collection of relatively simple tactics for coping with, prioritizing, and organizing the things you want to do. Many of the methods relate to organizing your own projects, using a handful of context-based to-do lists (e.g. a list of things to do at the office, at home, while waiting in line, etc). These lists consist of simple tasks. Those tasks are, in […]

  3. Moving from #things to #omnifocus by building a #taskpaper doc. OmniFocus has some issues that make it impossible to import areas (which would become folders). My (very short) program is #Python and I developed it in a #jupyter_notebook. If anybody cares I can turn the notebook into a text gist and make it available. I do still have to make repeats work.

  4. The only bummer was, there was a really good looking #TaskPaper parser, but i think it was for a previous version of #python. I imagine I could get it working, though.

I ended up asking #ChatGPT to create a TaskPaper parser, and it created one that is good enough.

Maybe I'll use that as a basis for a new one, but i'd rather help the author of the original one get it working.

  5. One thing i hate about setting up projects with #Jira is setting up tasks. It's slow, and tedious, and if it requires any input or approvals from others, it's maddening.

In my quest to work more with #python, i created a script that will input a #TaskPaper file, and create Jira sub-tasks from the tasks with notes.

Putting a #qt interface on it using #pyside 6 now.

  6. Wondering if I could write a little desktop application to do the following:
    - Parse #TaskPaper text (from #omnifocus)
    - Export that project data to a #Jira task as subtasks via their API.

    That would be so helpful.

  7. I used Strflow today with OmniFocus, which is pretty good for an interstitial journal. I can quickly bring it up and leave a status update about projects. It is handy when making a phone call and logging what we discussed.
I made two shortcuts, which work on the selected action’s project:

  8. Text files are indeed the unsung heroes of the internet, and Taskpaper is a fantastic way to harness their power for yourself. 3 licenses provided by brett: 🔗 Taskpaper giveaway • bretterpstra.com

  9. I am a big fan of #TaskPaper, but unfortunately, the lack of a good iPhone app has forced me to stop using it 😢. @jessegrosjean can we even dream about it?

  10. I’ve refined the way I use the #TaskPaper syntax so that my project and task page overview is a truly useful document in #Obsidian as well as in TaskPaper itself.

The way I’m making it work in both #apps without indented tasks becoming code blocks in Obsidian, is to put a wiki link as the first indented item under the project name. This is usually to the project page in Obsidian, but I use a dummy link if there isn’t one.

  11. Where are all the #TaskPaper nerds? It's very quiet over on Reddit.

Coo-ee! I'm looking for my tribe of people who don't expect me to speak org or emacs. People who love keeping their projects and tasks in a single document, as simply as possible.

@matadan is doing some interesting things with TP which I'm following with interest.

  12. @bogenschlag I keep all my projects and tasks in a single .md file in my #Obsidian vault. While I'm using Markdown and folding sections to make it easy to navigate, it's in the #TaskPaper format so I can access greater power when viewing the same file in TP-enabled apps.

There's only a tiny number of tasks that need reminders attached, so I copy paste those into my calendar or the Reminders app.

Would LOVE to see a TP plugin!

@kepano , your weekly note is stunning in its naked simplicity!

  13. My notes are #PlainText first, #Markdown second. They're highly portable between platforms, apps, and devices. #macos and #ios are my weapons of choice, but they'd look and work the same on #android and #Windows.

    They aren't #Obsidian notes, or #Logseq / #iaWriter / #tangent / #TextEdit / #Nota / #AnyType / #Taio / #TaskPaper / #vsCode notes, though I can use any of those apps as a lens to view and work with them.

They're wild, and free. This is their theme song:

  14. @andricheli, thanks for your lessons from using @obsidianmd for a year—I've mentioned your article in my latest newsletter. Also talking about how I'm accessing my vault from nvUltra on Mac, and Taio on iOS.

  15. The 50th edition of the Plain Text; Paper, Less #productivity digest has just dropped!

This one discusses my progress with the #TaskPaper syntax in #Obsidian, as well as 4 other plain text apps.

I also get a bit personal, sharing parts of my journey I don't usually discuss. The best part? Finally having the confidence to say whatever I want, without worrying about how it will affect the bottom line!

  16. I've briefly written about how I'm starting to use the #TaskPaper syntax in #Obsidian, here:

I'll write it up in detail soon. So far this has the simplicity I've been craving, without sacrificing the functionality I value the most. It's a hands-on approach, because that's what works the best for me.

Automations? Nah. I'd fiddle with the settings for hours, and then not trust them or feel connected to my work.

  17. When I see new plugins for better task management in #ObsidianMD I'm impressed, but I can't bring myself to rely on a system someone else holds the keys to!

Enjoying exploring the #TaskPaper way of tracking projects/tasks, and making the same system work in #Obsidian.

This system only requires a simple series of folders, and a small collection of saved searches for filtering.

Time sensitive tasks and subscriptions always go into my Calendar with one or more alarms set.

    @obsidian

  18. Geeky excitement!!

I've been trying to get a handle on #productivity, projects and tasks in #Obsidian for a couple of years now, and it's finally happened!

*drumroll* I've successfully integrated #Taskpaper/Taskmator into my #ObsidianMD vault!

todo.txt is cool, but it doesn't allow for extra info to be associated with tasks. In Taskpaper I can add wikilinks to the main project page, and all tasks and sub projects move as one when dragging and dropping to rearrange. Swoon!

  19. I tried #Übersicht and… it's pretty good. You write widgets in JSX, and they can get input from arbitrary shell commands.

Here's mine: a Python script reads my #TaskPaper todo list and prints all the top-level tasks in the "Active" Project. If the task has children, you get a count of incomplete/total. @done tasks are skipped. This list sits in the bottom left of my screen, just above the wallpaper.

I'm hoping this will make my TODO list a daily thing, rather than something I can forget about.

  20. Speaking of #Alfred, I have a "work" trigger I fire every morning that opens all my default apps. This includes things like Firefox, Slack, and Terminal.app. It also opens all my default TODO lists in #TaskPaper, and calls an external workflow with a weekly scratchpad/notes doc.

  21. New post: TaskPaper 3 Child-aware Archiving sixohthree.com/taskpaper-3-chi

By default, TaskPaper will disconnect @done children from their in-progress parents during Archiving. Here's a script that keeps everybody together!
