  1. @0xabad1dea I was just looking up a different Lizard the other day. In Cornwall. ISRT they were in the Zone of Totality (eclipse) some years back. I was thinking of going, but in the end I never did. I kind of regret it, so I'm going to completely misread "lizard forgives" as a way of absolving myself of that regret.

  2. I'm looking for a math #math #teacher who could show me, in #trigonometry , why it is equivalent to measure the #tangent as "an oblic segment" (towards the X axis) and a "vertical segment" (on x=1)

It seems intuitivelly logical, but i can't find a way to properly demonstrate it.

    Thank you!

  3. “In 1980, #Intel released the #Intel8087 #FloatingPoint coprocessor, a chip that could make math up to 100 times faster. As well as arithmetic and square roots, the 8087 computed #transcendental functions including #tangent, #exponentiation, and #logarithms.

But it all depended on a 69-bit adder: "The arithmetic heart of the floating-point execution unit is centered about a #nanomachine comprised of the adder and its related #registers, #shifters and control circuitry," as the patent describes it”

  4. Giving #Tangent a try as an #OrgRoam / #Obsidian alternative. Very good first impressions so far. :moomin_hmm:

  5. @pink_doublethink I liked Logseq but as a block-based outliner I wouldn’t consider it a replacement for Obsidian, and it’s in an odd place developmentally right now.

If Obsidian disappeared, I’d consider the following, which all use plaintext files in system folders:

    - #Zettlr I’ve tried this and it’s quite good. Open source with a committed, responsive, personable dev. Definitely worth trying.

    - #Tangent Notes

    - VS Code/Codium with the Foam plugin

  6. Hype for the Future 9B: Verfunctions in Trigonometry

The graph attached below showcases eight distinct and antiquated trigonometric functions regarding "versed" functions. Haversine in particular has historically been of importance in navigation, sailing, and perhaps even in communities such as fishing and whaling as well. From top to bottom, the functions listed in the legend correspond with the versine, vercosine, coversine, covercosine, haversine, havercosine, hacoversine, and hacovercosine, respectively.

  7. #Mathematics: The #logistic function, the #error function, and the #hyperbolic #tangent function all bear resemblance to one another, based on their respective definitions, which are to be represented in the following graph:

  8. And so, here are four functions to demonstrate it. The default resolution of the plotting routine is crude, leading to #Aliasing and so the mesh has to be refined somewhat.

Here are three #ConicSections and one #Trigonometric functions.

    An #Ellipse
    A #Parabola.
    A #Hyperbola.
    A rotating #Tangent function.

  9. @geospacedman Ended up nearly in tears while driving last weekend. Played the soundtrack to the RSC Nicholas Nickleby production, and it so sharply and strongly reminded me of Mum that I nearly lost it. Don't think the family noticed, thank goodness. Really sorry I'll not get to see your talk, Barry. #tangent

  10. @dannotdaniel

In geometry, the tangent line to a plane curve at a given point is, intuitively, the straight line that "just touches" the curve at that point. Leibniz defined it as the line through a pair of infinitely close points on the curve. More precisely, a straight line is tangent to the curve y = f at a point x = c if the line passes through the point on the curve and has slope f', where f' is the derivative of f. Wikipedia

  11. Tangent 0.9.0-alpha.10 is out! This update has keyboard-based section shifting, a new wikilink autocomplete option, and a massive set of fixes for queries!

  12. @Xhuul
    I use #NextcloudNotes, #Zettlr, #kwrite and a bit #tangent ( and obsidian too, but :blobcatgooglytrash: )

I try also orgmode with #orgzlyrevived and I like it - I tried also #emacs but that too hermetic for me … :blob_sweat:

  13. @lascapi

  15. @qotd but there are almond udders, so that checks out. I am just glad there isn't a banana milk product on the market. Please no one imagine how one would ever get milk out of a banana... no, don't, stop...
    Spoilers, its really hard.

  16. @wiredfire je suis plutôt la team #zettlr que j’aime bien ou #tangent que j’ai découvert récemment !! :D

  17. To all you fellow #opensource #pkm wonks out there, please help me test out this latest beta version of #tangent!

I just _know_ there are some gremlins in there. mastodon.social/@tangentnotes/
