PSA: Remember to check yourself for ticks regularly!
You can get them spending time outdoors.
If you have pets, they can carry some in from the outdoors. I've seen ticks do their seeking thing from a dog's back because they were more interested in finding something with thinner or no fur.#CW picture of a tick
Did you know ticks aren't insects? They are arachnids!
Yesterday, I removed this one from just above my popliteal fossa (back of the knee). Usually I use some thread in a loop but it was in a really unfortunate spot and made it quite challenging. I did eventually use fine tipped tweezers to gently remove it. You can see its mouth parts still intact.
I usually tuck my pants into my socks when walking outside, but sometimes I forget to do it before leaving the house and then do it mid walk. And sometimes my dogs act as unwitting transport carriers. They are on tick preventatives, and I do check them for ticks routinely.
This tick was clearly an adventurer, until it took an aro in the knee.

CW: mention of food
I was so prepared to make a bright and hearty quinoa salad today. Except for the part where I wasn't all out of quinoa :neofox_laugh_sweat:
I also let my tea go cold and when I went to to microwave it, I found a different tea mug. The one I had "misplaced" earlier this morning had gone cold waiting for me too. I had actually almost put it in the fridge instead of the microwave and was so proud of myself for catching myself there 💀
I think my meds work less good around a #fullMoon. I did actually take them on time today.
Don't worry, I already figured out how I will use up the fresh veggies, and I didn't burn the quick feta roast I made a few minutes ago (at least not terribly).

I couldn't find my normal eyeliner yesterday, so I subbed out a different one that I had specifically avoided using (but couldn't remember why). Nice sharp black, and I thought "I wonder why I specifically marked it as careful use..." If I wasn't already running late, I would have probably thought through it a bit more.
A few hours later, I'm at an event, and my eyes tend to water sometimes when there's air blowing or if it's a tad dusty or something.
It wasn't until I was in better lighting that it became apparent that this liner did not react well to moisture like my other ones do. :neofox_laugh:
The takeaway: If you haven't touched a liner in a bit, test how it reacts to an eyedrop before deciding on it for a look.

This anecdote is for anyone who believes I have some sort of social superpower or that I'm good at catching social cues.
At a recent kink event, someone was trying to remember my name after recognizing me at a different event. They then mentioned an art museum, and narrated the path from the entrance to a specific mural with "the most beautiful woman I've ever seen" and said I reminded them of that mural.
I only just realized that it was a really smooth compliment and not about getting me interested in an art museum (I love art museums already). :neofox_blush_hide:

CW: Food (and some light innuendo)
Sometimes I end up working extra late and just want some quick supper. This is one of my reliable quick recipes. Honey roasted Feta with some sort of bread thing. Yes, literally a block of cheese for supper #GirlDinner
I tend to stay gluten free due to a partner that has an allergy. She requested that I make the bread part softer if possible. Actual dialogue afterwards:
> "So soft!"
> "I'm pretty good at making things go soft sometimes"
> "A being of many talents" (muffled by the bread and giggles)How does one make prepackaged bread soft?
- Get it wet
- Heat it up
- Add some oil/fat/slippery stuff
- Flip it
- Heat it
- Spread out the oils and add more if needed
- Flip it again
- Spread the fluids some more
- Heat it
- Eat it, appreciating the softness of the flesh, savoring the texture on your lips and flavor on your tongue.:neobread_uwu:
For folks that want some extra clarity:
Moisture helps introduce softness. But not too much. I basically patted it down with water. Heating it a bit allows the water to absorb a bit faster and just sort of kick starts the whole thing. If using a fat like butter or ghee, they're easier to apply on a warmed up bread than a cool and clammy one.
If using dough it's a bit different, but you'd still be adding moisture and fats. Fats to help control how much structure is formed (it lowers gluten production if using a gluteny dough) and a moisture ratio to help determine flakiness.
It gets quite a bit more complicated than that, but it's one of the first things I learned as a child when fascinated by my aunties and grandma turning basically powder into a dough ball that we could then eat after running through fire. Earth, water, air and fire are all used at different stages in the ritual of bread making.

Since I haven't been on in a while, here's a post to let y'all know I'm okay. My spoons got scooped up by life and work things. It's just frustrating when it happens without warning, but also not what the post is about.
Anyway, it's been a bit chilly the past week or so. Sub-Zero temps (fahrenheit) and lots of snow. There was a 100+ car pileup not far from me the other day. I'm glad it wasn't as bad as it could have been.
I've been shoveling snow and breaking icicles a bunch. My fingers go numb very quickly despite thick gloves and hit hands. I might make a post for glove recs at some point soon depending on if I find something or not by the weekend.
It's also difficult to think when you run in from subzero to more livable temps, and your glasses fog up, and you can't get your boots, and outerwear off quickly enough.
Today, I took a break halfway (It's a significant amount of shoveling area and multiple feet of snow each time). My brain kicked in, but still not fast enough. It was only after I had finished peeling the sweat dampened drapey tank from my skin that I realized I really should have recorded that for the Fedi folks that like wet fabric being removed from toned torsos. Especially with flannel outer layers.
While I'll try to remember for next time, here's the rest of the aftermath as a sort of #PeekABoob

So, I have a habit of occasionally and inconsistently trying to jot down my dreams. It can sometimes take me hours to do because they are so detailed, and tie back into other dreams I may have had years ago.
It's not a consistent habit. Often getting to work on time takes precedent. Every so often, I'll wake up and I'll find I already started a dream note. This usually means I woke up briefly and don't remember it, but I was cognizant enough to take some quick bullet notes. The first one of these in 2026 happened the night of January 1. And I'm posting it here unedited because it's short.
I might post some of the longer ones someday, but we'll see.

CW: mention of food
Sometimes I'll go a whole day eating only when my reminders go off. Then I'll spend time thoroughly flossing before bed, and suddenly my body is like "hey, what about a quick bite?"
Floss again afterwards, and a few minutes later "You know what sounds really good right now? A snack!" :neofox_facepalm:
This has happened more than twice this week and it's not even Wednesday yet. I don't know what the over-under is on it continuing, but we're gonna find out!
The new moon is still a few days away, and yet #TacoTuesday remains true to it's name.

Finished up at a #kink event, not as many folks as I usually tie up, but that just meant I could tie up the same folks in different ways throughout the night. The alpaca wool got a field test with a sensory focused bottom: "Soft, squishy, and sorta pokey but in a soft way not a bad way. Reminds you that it's there and you're not going anywhere." and "Is there going to be more?"
Tonight had an enforced dress code "kink formal." It's really just an excuse to dress up. I am often in my typical cargo pants + crop with complimentary jewelry, carabiners, rope, etc. but I feel like I should diversify. Please feel free to leave your #FashionAdvice suggestions in the comments! I'll try to publicly model looks that I think I can pull off.
I do like the nights where more scenes are happening around. Some of them are delightfully whimsical. And some are just plain impressive. Some #impact tops can just go on for hours with regular rapid fire beats that is basically music at that point.
There was also a raffle. I won one of the groups of items. I stuffed mine into a random cup. The items aren't the kind of things I would get much use out of myself. *shrugs*
Then, I get home, let the dogs out as per their ritual. Unlike their ritual, they start awooing, alerting the neighborhood to some critter. Past midnight, below freezing, and I'm plodding through icy snow in not even close to enough clothing or appropriate shoes. And that's the story of why I'm currently chilly instead of asleep.

Casually prepping dinner, slicing some scallions, chopping some broccoli.
De-stem the broccoli.
Place the stem on the sheet pan.
Discard the florets into-... *Wait!*
Something is not right... A disturbance echoes in the aether.
With a quick snap-back-to-reality cantrip, I realize what went wrong. Whew! That was a close one.
Proceed to accidentally use all the glaze instead of reserving some for afterwards. :neofox_facepalm:
Maybe I need some anti-inflammatories. I grab some.
I put the pills into the cabinet and stare at the pill bottle in my hands, an invisible force holding me in place. :neofox_solder_googly: -

A shadow of doubt creeps across your brain like a skitter. What if you are simply bound somewhere, you think with a shiver. And the haze was simply some sort of spiderweb. And now you are swaddled like prey, intoxicated by the sweet kiss of your own demise, and experiencing the interstitial space in between.
It is a derealizing thought, and this entity seems to be aware that you are having it. They quietly wait for you to think through it yourself. They've already told you how to leave, but if this is a liminal space on death's doorstep, would you be in a hurry to leave? You don't know what awaits you out there. In here it would be only a little death, as a treat. There is no way to actually know if a bigger one awaits outside. They don't offer you any answers, but do offer to cage up their knockers to avoid any "knocking on death's doorstep, as you say." their words end with a sort of giggle.
True to their word so far, red ropes grow out of somewhere out of view behind them. You blink away a haze over your vision and then just take a moment to study what you see... Continued in the #AltText

CW: FaeSnare, full moon magic, rope, suggestive
The full moon. The night is bright with light, and full of sights to see, prey to bite, slights to right, and so on. You soar on to study some sites, not everything catches your interest. Then you hear a familiar melody, and spot the glimmer of an unusual rite, perhaps performed by a sprite? You lower yourself to get closer, you get closer to see better, your lower your gaze, your guard, and glide right into the haze waiting for you.
A familiar embrace, the scent of creamy buttery vanilla, speckled lightly with the sweetness of berries, the zing of citrus and lemongrass, the warmth of a lively hearth. The feeling of being home, of being in your favorite bed, so close to yourself. Carefully cradled, gently swaddled, and gingerly placed. You almost don't hear the soft whispers in your brain. "Stay a while," they say "you can leave anytime. You can cross the muddy river, where love turns to fear. You'll find the way back, and all here will disappear (for you)"
Curious, you open your eyes... Continued in the #AltText
