Had a bit of a hectic day, but managed to squeeze in the #Runna “Broken Miles” intervals workout for my Parkrun Improvement Plan, Week 4, Run 2.
It is #GlobalRunnimgDay today, so I was determined to get a run in one way or another.
However, I always battle with pace on the treadmill, with #Stryd telling me I’m running markedly slower than the treadmill. It doesn’t help when I forget to tell my Garmin it’s a treadmill run and not outdoors!
Anyway, it’s another session towards a fitter me!
What did you do for Global Running Day?

As part of my marathon training, I ran a 15K time trial in my long run today.
#Stryd's PDC model suggested running 294 W, which felt a little low. But I guess it was decently accurate.
15 km: 1:08:56, 296 W, 4:36/km, 149 bpm
When I started, my found my rhythm quickly, which had me slightly nervous I was over-cooking. But I managed to hold the effort just fine.
Finishing, I felt there was still a touch left in the tank though. Perhaps I could have run 300 W.

Ran my first half-marathon yesterday: 2:03:33.
The first 17km felt controlled. Power on target, everything according to plan. Then km 18 happened, and the plan left the chat.
Lost 75 seconds per km over the final 4km. The post-race data analysis was clear: turns out I was running on half the fuel I needed (49g carbs/hour instead of 80+) while holding a power target (303W of CP 325W) that was too ambitious for the duration.
Lessons were learned here.

Hill repeats are on the agenda today. Right now, I don't feel like going at all.
My New Year's resolution for 2026 will probably be: quit running. 😏

Before I went to my daughters for Christmas, I stopped at Milan's Parco Nord for an easy run + strides.
6km @ 6’27/km, 17m EG ✔️

Stryd's predictions are pretty spot on here.

TIL #coffee lord and savior James Hoffmann is running and training with the #Stryd power meter.
Kick ass James! Welcome to the nerd side of #running!

My experience with #Stryd is that I tend to disregard body feel, in favour of the power numbers.
This means I am more likely to sprain my ankle, or strain my Plantar

I'm trying to understand the hesitation many runners have towards #running power, especially #Stryd.
Some say different shoes give drastically different watts for the same effort/pace. This hasn't been my experience though, across many different types and brands of shoes.
Some say it's horrible at wind and hills. Again, I cannot confirm. In light breezes to stiff wins, the watts remains predictable and reliable. Same with shallow to moderately steep hills.

My treadmill lies! It reckoned my run tonight was 5.6km. My #Stryd, which I put far greater trust in, reckons I only ran 4.9km. Certainly felt more than 4.9km though... serves me right from wimping out of running in the rain.

For the #RunnersOfMastodon who train with #Stryd, they just dropped a new article from an Olympic coach who uses Stryd with his athletes.
It dives into the weeds with the detailed metrics Stryd provides, what they are, average ranges, and what you can do to improve them.
This is probably, single-handedly, the best article they've released to date IMO. It answers the question "how can I be a better runner with all these metrics?"
