The was before I was born, but it still got regular play on the radio, and I always loved it. When we moved west in the 70s and I finally got to ride up the actual Grapevine highway I never made the connection with the song until now. But I can confirm that it was a car killer. In the early 2000s, though I doubt it's recognizable, I used the geography of the area for the climactic battle in my Battletech/Mechwarrior novel "Trial by Chaos."
