  1. I saw an obnoxiously scammy ad for a D**ila E**o #SleepApnea pillow. So to spite them, I immediately ordered an exact knock-off from AliExpress for 1/4 of their "discounted" price.

So, did the #Ad work or not?

  2. I think we can all agree that sleep is important. But messed-up sleep, where one stops breathing (sleep apnea), is kind of bad and (atop everything else) can also cause memory impairments.

  4. Was doing so well with the old #sleepapnea tonight. Only woke once at 3.30am, comfort break, swig of water, back to sleep... Lay there for 15 minutes trying to get comfortable...the effort of which woke me up properly, so I'm now downstairs with the dog on my lap feeling vaguely pissed off.

    Ho hum.

I know other people have bigger problems, but I do object and feel depressed about not sleeping through the night for...yikes...15 years. Can't be good for me!

  5. Sleep apnea episodes up to well over 10 an hour over the last few days. This is not good as I'm supposed to be at 5 or less. I've been averaging 3. I'm not sure what's going on, but it ain't good. Hoping to not pop my clogs during the night. Might not be found for a month of Sundays... #sleepApnea #SleepApnoea

  6. New release!

For anyone interested in #SleepResearch and #SleepApnea I have developed a toolbox to analyze sleep datasets in a uniform way.

Beta testers and contributors are welcome!

  7. I am SO TIRED of not sleeping through the night. :-( #sleepapnea

  8. Oof. Nearly 30 sleep apnea events per hour last night. My sleep was highly disrupted. Not sure what happened (mask seal was great) but that was painful. Hoping that was a one off and not some fundamental change.

  9. Potentially good news for sleep apnea sufferers from the field of medicine. Participants in a clinical drug trial who took the highest daily dose of an epilepsy drug had nearly 50 percent fewer breathing interruptions while sleeping. @ScienceAlert has more:

  10. Great representation for #sleepapnea sufferers on #BBCBreakfast this morning from Duncan Wood (The Masked Anchorman) who was recently diagnosed with the issue and has started a YouTube channel about his struggles with daytime sleepiness, diagnosis and treatment.

Do you snore and fall asleep during the day? It's worth getting checked out, as I did many years ago.

  11. Interesting! If I sleep on my LEFT hand side (recommendation from my knowledgeable wife), I get no burps or acid indigestion. Something to do with how the oesophagus meets the stomach. Also trying new mask rather than the old one. #sleepapnea Feel slightly... disoriented at the moment. Could just be dehydration.

  12. My #sleepapnea travails continue tonight. I feel like I'm somehow back at the beginning 20 years ago. Nervous about going to sleep. :-(

  13. This picture has so much stupid in it, I can't begin to tell you. But I'll have a go. #sleepapnea 1. Bad sleep hygiene using a device before sleeping. 2. Using your mask while fully awake is just stupid. 3. Implies happy co-sleeping habits between man and wife with a CPAP. (Ask me why this is huge and complete bullshit...I dare you :-/ )

  14. I haven’t slept well for 26 yrs. I’ve seen every doctor known to man except a witch doctor (couldn’t find one) about it. Anyways, 11 yrs ago I was diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea. The doctor I saw seemed to only want to sell cpac machines and didn’t help me. Fast forward to today and last night I slept for 7 hrs on a cpac. Is this what people feel like every day? Refreshed and full of energy? I haven’t felt like this in a lot of years. On a related note the lady who set me up with the machine told me that not too long ago it was believed women couldn’t get sleep apnea only men. Ugh.

  15. I know there is some type of liability at play…

But I can’t stop feeling amused that you *are not allowed* to enable #SleepApnea notifications on #iphone #ios if you answer this question in the affirmative.

I literally shall not pass unless I change my answer to no.

  16. Sleep Apnea Linked to Parkinson’s Disease, New Study Finds

Those with the sleep condition were more likely to develop Parkinson’s disease. But one treatment was found to help.

  17. Gotta get up.
    Don't wanna.

Sacha's CPAP mask has been hissing at me for the last hour and half or so - I even considered moving into the spare bedroom for the first time in our 48 year marriage.
I wouldn't mind so much if it seemed to improve her overall health, but it doesn't.
This is the second style of m'ask she's tried.

Sorry - I'm very grumpy this morning!

  18. I thought I might had gotten long-term effects from Covid.

    I hadn't.

A lot of years ago, my wife started refering to my snoring as a bit disruptive. However, at about the same time we had our first child, and to maximize sleep we started using separate bedrooms. Three children later, we had grown so accustomed to our own me-time at night that we had no plans on changing it (and I do recommend it to couples - it doesn't mean the love is gone, really).

Recently, after the kids yet again had fought over who wanted what room, we found ourselves having our bedrooms in a way where my wife needs to pass through mine going to/from.

... and she told me that not only was my snoring _really_ bad now, I also had long regular occurences of not breathing.

After Covid, which I got already in March 2020 the first time (wee the joys of being a frequent flier back then), I had noticed sometimes being really tired in the middle of the day. I even found myself napping every now and then - something I've never needed before. I've also pondered that I seemed to be a bit "foggy" sometimes, the brain not braining as it used to.

Well, I'm also getting older. I'm 50+ now, and that does seem to be something that ... happens.

However, that comment from my wife did sound like something else: sleep apnea. Hearing her description also made it out to be quite severe, so I contacted my local healthcare provider.

47 times, per hour, I stopped breathing for more than 10 seconds. I get how that might've affected my brain's braining.

I've now used a CPAP for a week, and wow! Even after the first night the difference was just immense. I feel _awake_ in a way I haven't done for years. The gradual onset meant I never really noticed before.

Did Covid affect my sleep apnea though? Well, I mean, maybe? Regardless, the "brain fog" wasn't something Covid-specific. What I'm trying to say with this post is; if you have any indications you might suffer from sleep apnea go get a CPAP.

    What a wakeup.

  19. I have a sleep study coming up to determine if I clench my teeth at night.

That really isn't something modern medicine has a cure for. You can protect your teeth with a mouth guard but that's it.
