  1. After numerous trials I’ve finally found a mask that works for me on my CPAP. According to the machine I clocked 7 hrs sleep last night. I feel like a new woman!! Plus I haven’t had one fibromyalgia flare since being on the CPAP. According to my doctor they’re finding people who have fibromyalgia might actually have sleep apnea. #CPAP #Sleep #Fibromyalgia

  2. Subject: Medical. Bonus: Everett-Wheeler multiverse.

Well, today was interesting. See the attached chart. Guess where I am on the chart. Hint: The answer and the story suggest that Everett-Wheeler worlds might be real.

I spent Tuesday afternoon, March 31, 2026, traveling to get the results from a recent overnight sleep test. There was one surprise.

I have sleep apnea. A lot of people do. Perhaps you or a family member are one of them.

The condition ranges from minor to fatal. This is what Princess Leia died of, though it's not as direct as that. The condition places stress on the cardiovascular system. That can be enough to finish you by itself. Or other conditions can step in. If that happens, that's all she wrote.

I have an "interruptions per hour" number that is classified as "severe". This means that I'll need to get a #CPAP machine again. The number isn't a surprise. I've had a sleep study and a CPAP before [in the 2010s].

But my night-time oxygen saturation level is so low that I've probably already died. Here's the thing: I've most likely been at the level discussed further down for 5 years. I'm not sure that that is possible.

So, I might be living in an Everett branch. People who have read about the Copenhagen Interpretation, Schrödinger's Cat, and Everett-Wheeler are familiar with the concept.

My number "indicates severe hypoxemia". This leads to "rapid and catastrophic declines in tissue oxygenation. One result is organ damage. The heart tries to compensate for hypoxemia by increasing cardiac output, leading to tachycardia, arrhythmias, and, in chronic cases, pulmonary hypertension and right-sided heart failure."

My case is chronic. This suggests that I'm already pushing up daisies. So, that's great.

I'm supposed to get oxygen "immediately". It's classified as an emergency. But I don't think that I'm supposed to go to the E.R. This leaves the question of where I should go to get the oxygen. I see that Walmart sells portable oxygen concentrators, but I'm not sure that that's the same thing.

My specialist's office said that they didn't "vend" and that they didn't know where to go to get the oxygen.

Note: To be clear, the key people at the office were patient and as helpful as possible. I have no complaint about that.

My #HMO, presently one of the Blue Shield plans, should know. But I've been trying to reach my "clinical care coordinator" at the HMO for a full month as of this week.

Note: The care coordinator is the person that you're supposed to speak with for issues that will require more than one phone call.

I know that my care coordinator, Edgar, is receiving my voicemails. However, he's only tried to call me back once.

A few hours ago, I spoke with a nice HMO Member Services person, Claudia. She said that she'd try to get a "care navigator", the level below care coordinator, to phone me tomorrow [April 01, 2026].

The care navigator might try to help. It'll be April Fools Day. I'm not sure if that's a positive sign or not.

After the HMO call, I fell asleep for two hours. Two-hour naps are common for me. Now, here I am, ready to fedi. I'll fedi on my dedi until sleep again is ready.

I have a few people in IRC tonight as well as the fedi dedi. A jug of water. Hydration is good. There's an apple a few yards away. I'm set for a couple of hours. I appreciate the basics these days.

  4. I've been using a #CPAP machine for a year now. My palete in my mouth has fallen and I choke without it. I used to average like 4-5 hours of #sleep a night, and when tested they counted over 400 "events" where I stop breathing in one session. Since going with the CPAP, my new readout shows I get 8 hours of #sleep on average, and i have 1.6 events on average. Between 1-5 is normal. Biggest side effects are I wake up immediately, no sleepiness #hangover, and I #dream intensely now. So worth it.

  7. New research reveals that people with untreated obstructive sleep #apnea have a higher risk of developing #Parkinson’s disease. However, they can significantly reduce the risk by improving the quality of their sleep by using continuous positive airway pressure, or #CPAP

  8. I thought I might had gotten long-term effects from Covid.

    I hadn't.

A lot of years ago, my wife started refering to my snoring as a bit disruptive. However, at about the same time we had our first child, and to maximize sleep we started using separate bedrooms. Three children later, we had grown so accustomed to our own me-time at night that we had no plans on changing it (and I do recommend it to couples - it doesn't mean the love is gone, really).

Recently, after the kids yet again had fought over who wanted what room, we found ourselves having our bedrooms in a way where my wife needs to pass through mine going to/from.

... and she told me that not only was my snoring _really_ bad now, I also had long regular occurences of not breathing.

After Covid, which I got already in March 2020 the first time (wee the joys of being a frequent flier back then), I had noticed sometimes being really tired in the middle of the day. I even found myself napping every now and then - something I've never needed before. I've also pondered that I seemed to be a bit "foggy" sometimes, the brain not braining as it used to.

Well, I'm also getting older. I'm 50+ now, and that does seem to be something that ... happens.

However, that comment from my wife did sound like something else: sleep apnea. Hearing her description also made it out to be quite severe, so I contacted my local healthcare provider.

47 times, per hour, I stopped breathing for more than 10 seconds. I get how that might've affected my brain's braining.

I've now used a CPAP for a week, and wow! Even after the first night the difference was just immense. I feel _awake_ in a way I haven't done for years. The gradual onset meant I never really noticed before.

Did Covid affect my sleep apnea though? Well, I mean, maybe? Regardless, the "brain fog" wasn't something Covid-specific. What I'm trying to say with this post is; if you have any indications you might suffer from sleep apnea go get a CPAP.

    What a wakeup.

  9. I have sleep #apnea , pretty bad. I need a #CPAP but the instant I put one on I go into a full-blown panic attack from the air blowing in my face. I can't breathe that way. When I used t oride motorcycles with my parents, I needed a full-face helmet a all times. Thus, no CPAP.

Today I learned about an implant that can replace a CPAP and I REALLY want it. I need to talk with my doctor ASAP.

  10. CPAP week 1 passed with no major issues. I've been using it all night long and getting high scores from the Bluetooth connected app. Feeling less drowsy in afternoons too. Some minor tickling irritation of my nose while I'm using it, and the first couple exhales require more force, but otherwise good. A lot of people have a horrible time with these gadgets. I guess I feel lucky! #CPAP #ObstructiveSleepApnea #sleep #apnea #therapy

  11. Two nights ago I got about 5.75 hours of sleep. I felt fine all day long until I finally got home from work. That was about 6:30pm. As soon as I walked in the door it hit me and I just felt completely exhausted.

Last night I got about 6.5 hours of sleep. I have felt completely exhausted all day.

Do you ever wish that things like sleep could actually start making sense? Wouldn’t that be nice?

I haven’t used my CPAP machine since before we went to Florida. I packed it and took it with us, but I never set it up. I had a bad cold when I got home and didn’t want to be inhaling phlegm all night so I didn’t set it up at home either. Maybe I’ll finally get back to it tonight. I’m pretty sure I don’t need it anymore, but maybe there’s some kind of placebo affect I could take advantage of? Probably not, but who knows.

All I know for sure is that I could use a nap right now.
