Russ Meyer and Roger Ebert teamed up again for 1976's Up! which is a little bit fairy tale, a little bit Nazisploitation, and a whole lot of busty women. I... I mean it's Russ Meyer.

Perhaps one of the more famous Russ Meyer films is the pseudo-sequel to Jacqueline Susann's Valley of the Dolls. Beyond the Valley of the Dolls isn't just a kind of funny title, or a studio film for Meyer, it was written by famous movie critic Roger Ebert.

Russ Meyer was well into his career and fame when he released Vixen. The movie ended up becoming a massive cultural movie due to the fact that it brought couples to the theater to have a naughty night out by seeing a sex film together, oftentimes for the first time.

1965 was a really great year for Russ Meyer. First, he had Mudhoney, then he had the iconic Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! starring the equally iconic Tura Satana.

May 2020 was a momentous month at B-Movie Enema. It was Russ Meyer Month. To kick things off, we go back to the Depression Era for a Southern Gothic tale - 1965's Mudhoney.

Russ Meyer Month II concluded with his final film, Beneath the Valley of the Ultra Vixens. He goes out in a very Russ Meyer way and it ends with the man himself making sure to state how normal sex is for people to engage in, in all its varied ways.

Russ Meyer's Blacksnake is... Well, it's not very good and it's not really Meyer's style. It's not like it's not shot well or have production value, it just feels not good. That's even before we get to the subject matter.

As part of Russ Meyer Month II, Finders Keepers, Lovers Weepers! is a little bit a wife exploring her sexuality while her cheating husband explores a lot of sexuality. Anne Chapman is every bit a Russ Meyer girl.

Russ Meyer's 1965 exploitation thriller Motorpsycho has one of the best titles in exploitation cinema history. It's also a pretty decent flick too.

1967's Common Law Cabin kicked off Russ Meyer Month II at B-Movie Enema. It's a movie that I admittedly chose to include because of the title but it doesn't quite turn out to be as off the wall as the title was. It's also entirely possible I didn't quite understand the title either.

1975's Supervixens from Russ Meyer features a guy who hits the road, runs into multiple vixens along the way, gets chased by an evil cop, and finds the perfect girl in the form of the drop dead gorgeous Shari Eubank in a duel role. It's a wild ride that any fan of Meyer's would enjoy.

Just a side note... Today marks the official 10th anniversary of the first B-Movie Enema review. Now onto the look back at a classic review.
May 2020 was Russ Meyer Month at B-Movie Enema. I looked at five of his all-time classics and I got things started with a great moody black and white feature, Mudhoney.

The final entry of the second Russ Meyer Month at B-Movie Enema was Beneath the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens. It also proved to be Meyer's final narrative movie, but it's an interesting one that has all sorts of zany ideas running about in it.

Blacksnake is a definite misfire from Russ Meyer. It was partly inspired by the blaxploitation movement of the early 70s, but while it came from good intentions, Meyer was out of his depth as it really didn't possess the usual traits of his movies. Probably would have been better off not making the film at all.

You consider me the young apprentice
Caught between the Scylla and Charibdes
Hypnotized by you if I should linger
Staring at the ring around your finger
I have only come here seeking knowledge
Things they would not teach me of in college
I can see the destiny you sold
turned into a shining band of gold
I'll be wrapped around your finger

Can you imagine anything quite as cool as a Tura Satana action figure? The 8-inch doll is based on her character in Russ Meyer‘s masterpiece Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! and comes with natural hair, motorcycle boots and gloves, new retro box artwork by Joseph Michael Linsner. https://reprobatepress.com/2023/06/18/the-tura-satana-action-figure-is-here/ #Cult #RussMeyer

Dean J. DeFino's book about "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!" makes me appreciate the movie even more. Interesting to learn of Tura Satana's impressive life story, read John Waters' hilariously over-the-top praise ("The best movie ever made. Possibly better than any film that will be made in the future."), and understand the film's stylistic location in Meyer's catalog.
One of a series of books called Cultographies. How am I just now learning of this?!

Just purchased several Japanese chirashi flyers for a Russ Meyer film festival they had back in the mid-90s. Groovy.

Love this #film to bits - #BeyondTheValleyOfTheDolls - full of #kitsch #sleaze & #psychedelia with an excellent #soundtrack , a frankly demented finale & even more demented coda. #RussMeyer ‘s greatest film, I think & very much an inspiration for Rapid Eye Electronics Ltd.
