Blacula” (1972) is considered to be the first Black Vampire in mainstream media. The character was originally written as more of a villain until opera singer and actor William Marshall was cast. He worked with the production to add more depth and backstory to Prince Mamuwalde.

Melvin Van Peebles' 1971 masterpiece, Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song, is not just a really great movie about an urban hero, but it's also cinematically important. It's the landmark film that created the subgenre of film known as blaxploitation and gave birth to a rush of black cinema for the next several years.

Back in the 70s, director Cirio Santiago was making a lot of action flicks in the Philippines. A lot of them featured African American actors because they were available and they could get the work there. The Muthers is one of those movies and has an awesome title to boot.
