Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions Of The Smashing Pumpkins
2007 U.S. CD issueI’ve long been a fan of these beautiful, lush and dreamy Rockabye Baby! albums, and if there was ever a band who’s songs were tailored for one, it’s the Pumpkins.
In particular “Tonight, Tonight”, “Today”, “Disarm” and “1979”. The hits get shimmering and mellow instrumental renditions here, rife with glockenspiel, mellotron, and vibraphone.
Even the scorching rockers on here get wonderful treatment. On “Cherub Rock”, Corgans screaming guitars and Jimmy Chamberlain’s thunderous drums get replaced with a wonderful nursery mobile-type kind of vibe. It’s really quite wonderful.
Definitely one of my favorite releases of this series.
