"The Twelve Days of Christmas" is an English #ChristmasCarol and #nurseryRhyme. A classic example of a #cumulativeSong, the #lyrics detail a series of increasingly numerous gifts given to the speaker by their "true love" on each of the #twelveDaysOfChristmas (the twelve days that make up the #ChristmasSeason, starting with #ChristmasDay). The carol, whose words were first published in England in the late eighteenth century, has a #RoudFolkSongIndex number of 68.

"Billy Boy" is a traditional folk song and #nurseryRhyme found in the #UnitedStates, in which "#Billy Boy" is asked various questions, and the answers all center on his quest to marry a girl who is said to be too young to leave her mother. It has a #RoudFolkSongIndex number of 326. It is a variant of the traditional #EnglishFolkSong "My Boy Billy", collected by #RalphVaughanWilliams and published by him in 1912 as number 232 in Novello's School Songs.

Something silly to start off the week: an odd interpretation of a well-known nursery rhyme by the ever-bizarre (and favourite of mine) Sidney Sime. Scanned from a 1901 edition of Pall Mall Magazine. #nurseryrhyme #cat #dog #cow #weird #weirdart #illustration #artsky #SidneySime

"Don't Let the Rain Come Down (Crooked Little Man)" was a #folkMusic single, and the debut recording of the #SerendipitySingers in 1964. The song was based on the English #nurseryRhyme "#ThereWasACrookedMan". The song was first recorded as "Crooked Little House" by #JimmieRodgers in 1960, on his album At Home with Jimmie Rodgers - An Evening of Folk Songs, on which the songwriting was credited to #ErselHickey and Ed E. This delightfully detailed shoe charm pendant necklace is based on the nursery rhyme, There Was an Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe. The charm is vintage, hinged to reveal a tiny mother and three children inside the shoe house. Even the hobnails on the boot heel are detailed! The charm is hallmarked with a maker's mark and silver 925. It hangs from an 18" or 46cm chain of recycled sterling silver.

This little test succeeded,
This little test failed,
This little test didn't run,
This little test hung,
And this little test went wee wee wee all the way through the CI pipeline crashing everything. -
ππ»Remembering the childhood magic of "Hey Diddle Diddle" on #FolkloreSunday ππThe earliest known publication of the rhyme is around c. 1765, and it is often associated with Mother Goose, a legendary author of French fairy tales and nursery rhymes.π½οΈ #NurseryRhyme πͺΏ

Here's one for the #Education #K12 people maybe.
What's that #NurseryRhyme (i think?) something about... i think it's #cheese . and they're all sitting there. Might be a #hen with a #classroom of #students but i prob made it up like #falsememories
the IMPORTANT part is the end (of course) where the one guy-- i think he's a #rat -- well, he says "I'll have some of it...", and the hen basically tells him he's a jerk, and shouldn't have any because he didn't #contribute to making the cheese (whatever it was).
π¬Sound familiar?

This nursery rhyme was clearly written by a cat owner:
"Pussy-cat ate the dumplings, the dumplings,
Pussy-cat ate the dumplings.
Mamma stood by, and cried, 'Oh, fie!
Why did you eat the dumplings?'"π¨: Gems from Mother Goose (1899)

Oh, the Grand Old Duke of Jenrick
He had 75,000 men
39, he marched onto a barge
And then he marched them off again. -
As a city kid it wasn't until I was in my 40s that I figured out that the phrase "This little piggy went to market" was NOT a story about one pig going shopping. It was about a pig being slaughtered.
I wondered were I got that idea & then I found all these books illustrating that #NurseryRhyme.

I realise Harry is probably now at an age when he'd like this video to be buried forever but it's the most adorable parent+child folkie duet ever, and knowing dad is filming just offscreen makes it even better. I recommend watching to the end after the singing stops.

If you would like me to do something, adding "Please" to the sentence might help.
If you really need me to do something, adding "If you're happy and you know it" to the sentence will work 9 times out of 10.
