Maybe I'm not great with Plasticity and Class A modeling, but at the bottom left the continuity error from Surface Psycho is acceptable (marked in green), while the one from xNurbs on the same NURBS patch, where I used the "Square" command (xNurbs' dedicated command for Class A patches), has a bigger error, highlighted in yellow, and it's really obvious. Surface Psycho 1, Plasticity 0.

#Plasticity3D just rolled out a new feature that everyone's going to love! You can now import #SubD models, but not using the usual old method, this implementation is better than anything I've tried over the years. I haven't used Alias so I can't compare, but I can definitely say it's the best one out of all the ones I've tested all is G2.
Plus, you can model in #Blender and update the model straight into Plasticity3D. #b3d #CAD

Jason is happy with his car. Stage one is complete. I have several ideas on how to upgrade the model to make printing and assembly much easier. I've been wanting to make a small gift for Emily, Jason's three-year-old neighbour. So I gave the car a 'baby girl' makeover. What do you think?

The best way for making primary surfaces in #Plasticity3D is the Square command from XNurbs. This allows control over the CVs of the patches and enables clean, straightforward modeling. However, it’s not indispensable you can still achieve excellent results even without! #CAD

#The100DayProject Day 54

The project goal is now "Finish all 3D projects you started and start selling them". I have so many projects running now.

I've completed the Classic French Chess Set, my first 3D printing project. The design is based on the French chess sets used and sold by the Café de la Régence in Paris in the 18th and 19th centuries. The set was modelled in Plasicity, the knight was modelled in Blender.

The100DayProject Day 23

A complete redesign based on the first prototype. I am used to solid modelling (3DStudioMax etc). This is fine for the concept stage. But for the lamp, the design of the interior and walls are crucial, because of the light shining through the material. I'm now working with sheets instead. The idea is to thicken the sheets to the right wall thickness when all contours are done.

On #Linux, after upgrading to Ubuntu 24.04, #Plasticity3D for Windows works very well with the standard version of Wine, which you can install directly from the system’s package manager. so now you can use smoothly all features even on Linux. The video show well it on wine, #CAD

Wheels, Axles and numberplate parts of the toy car nightlight for Jason exploded. The wheel is in 2 parts for now. I am going to test a single part wheel print to see ifg the printer holds up on the base.

In the next step of sketching I thought about safety (no sharp corners), running wheels and how to fit the LED light. I tried a few ideas for details on the side and/or back, but none of them were successful.

Picked up a battery powered LED that will be the light source for Jason's car nightlight. I modeled it roughly in Plasticity, a 3D CAD modelling application aimed at artists. Safety of the nightlight will be my first concern since it'll be in his room. I will design a mount for the LED first. the fun and cute part of the modeling process will have to wait a little bit.

Many went crazy for #Xnurbs/square command, but with #Plasticity3D sometimes using the standard commands results in better surfaces, however, XNurbs creates simpler surfaces, but sometimes the CVs are a bit messy. #Nurbs #CAD

Today for those who need to create 2D #CAD #drawings from #3D models the fastest and most economical method is to use #Blender LineArt, in a few seconds to generated views and then save as #DXF, the only flaw is the circumferences, for the rest it is fine, eg. with #Plasticity3D

A metal sheets work with #Plasticity3D, unfolding and 2D generation with #FreeCAD, the annoying task, was the making of DXFs layout of all parts with #QCAD. Also Moi3D was used with complex 3D for 2D generation of assembly. rendering with #b3d, QCAD has some issues in the dimensions, the saved file differ from original. and dimension are wrong, I have to re-edit each time.
