in october of last year, the Paint.NET on Linux topic resurfaced in the Paint.NET forums. apparently someone who goes by Blue Beard was working on getting Wine to work with the program. subsequently they got help from Paint.NET staff so that the effort could go in the right direction. today, the effort is still going and there's a somehow active GitHub repository with patches to Wine so that Paint.NET works, and from what i can see, it does! people are running Paint.NET!

the goal of this post is to spread awareness about the topic, and hopefully get more people on board with testing and maybe even helping if anyone knows how to deal with this. below, i've linked the forum thread, which has links to past threads with more information in them, and the GitHub repo with the patches, instructions, and a roadmap, in the repo everyone can look at the code and submit issues and PRs. i'd very much appreciate it as i miss Paint.NET a lot, i'll certainly be looking for ways to help as well!

  5. I am continuing with my fulltime migration from #Windows to #Bazzite #Linux.

The project for the last few days has been to get #PaintDotNet up & running. I really don't want to leave this program behind but it looks like currently this is not easily possible.

I tried both the Windows installer & the portable version with Wine, Bottles, Lutris & Heroic Launcher & had no success.

It looks like some people are trying to tackle this. Older versions are working though.

  6. I work with #PaintDotNet a lot and one of the biggest flaws of that otherwise great program is lack of advanced layers management like folders. With 50+ layers in a single file it gets really difficult and messy with one super-long scrolling list and indistinct/tiny previews.

My workaround is grouping by color-coding layers labels with emojis like 🟥 🟦 🟩 🟨 or even general emojis.

  7. #PaintDotNet version 5.0 has released. Among other changes, brush pressure sensitivity has finally been added! Wooo!! #art

  8. CW: Flying Mammal

Feedback and thoughts! Pixel-art is fun mostly because my gf gushes about how cute it is, lol.

  9. @thor Interesting..

Would it be appropriate to call it a #PaintDotNet alternative?
