Ok this is funny.
It appears AfD did too well in Merklenburg-Western Pomerania. In Germany parties need to have at least 5% of the vote to gain seats. They've completely pushed out both BSW (Sarah Wagenknecht Alliance) and the CDU (of Merz) and seemingly have delivered a majority to the centre-left bloc.
Preliminary results - it can still change.
AfD seems to take Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, they're in the lead and likely to stay but not all votes are counted. SPD is fairly close.
Die Linke takes Berlin. They're far ahead enough to feel certain. Seem to have an absolute majority with The Greens and SPD. CDU and AfD come in second and third but seems irrelevant.
And elections again in Germany. Two states today.
First: Mecklenburg–Western Pomerania (along the north coast, pop. ~1.6m). AfD (far right) has a slight lead over SPD (labour) with Die Linke (left) a very, very distant third. This may come down to strategic voting, especially after the Saxony-Anhalt result - today an AfD win is not inevitable.
Second: Berlin (pop. ~3.6m). More of a toss up. Die Linke, AfD and incumbent CDU (Christian Democrats) all polling around 20%. It likely comes down to coalition building with the Greens and SPD polling 4th and 5th respectively there's a good chance for a left- wing coalition government. Even if they win, it seems unlikely AfD can form a coalition.
