The #Michigan Senate passed a bill banning the #GayPanic & #TransPanic defense in court. Rep Laurie Pohutsky introduced HB4718, saying, "I was a young queer person when Matt Shepard was murdered, & it was the first time, although I was not out yet, that I realized, 'Oh, this could be very dangerous for me." The bill now goes to the Governor for her signature.

#Illinois is the 1st state to ban #BookBans. #Schools or #libraries that do so could lose state funds. Book bans target stories by & about #PeopleOfColor & #LGBTQ & goes agst the #FirstAmendment. We must follow IL's lead & need to enact #legislation to put a ban on #BookBanning.

Anti-discrimination #legislation to add protections for natural hair, “traits historically associated with race” into #Michigan’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act is heading to the governor’s desk after passing the Legislature Thursday. The bill would implement a policy known as the “Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair Act,” or “#CROWNAct,” for short.
