Any recommendation for a matrix home server? Does it matter? Or should I just go with matrix.org?

Our main Matrix room has been broken by protocol bugs causing state resets again. This occurred around a year ago and our room hasn't had time to regrow to the same size before the same thing happened again. We've determined that it's directly caused by the raids on our rooms.

@cinnyapp for #MatrixDotOrg just makes me sad at how close Matrix is to being a proper Discord alternative, while still having so many glaring issues at the protocol level that NEED to be fixed.

As a Matrix user, I'm so sad and disappointed this happened. I hope alternative implementations such as Conduit or Construct go stable so that we don't have to rely so much on Dendrite or Synapse.

The Matrix foundation always had funding issues, but I never thought it would come to the point where they'd move their main server implementations to Vector and license it aGPL with selling exceptions. Copyleft has never been a Matrix thing.

You know what adds insult to injury? They've warned us about this for so long. They kept telling us that Matrix wasn't sustainable and that we needed to start donating or they wouldn't be able to keep their permissive licensing. Now, here we are, with the main server implementations being aGPL.

@sagolla my personal recommendation is to follow tags instead and from there on you can actually start following people with your same interests

For example I'm a huge fan of Rust and Matrix so I follow the hashtags #rustlang and #matrixdotorg :)

The year ends, a little money was still left, so I just took that, split it 50:50 and donated it to both #Mastodon and @matrix. Both complement each other nicely.

I just got the results of my #matrixdotorg survey and damn they're overwhelming!

With that said though, I can easily tell that the biggest issue in Matrix, is that nobody knows what it is!

Rather than a protocol based on HTTP/JSON, many people believe it's just a chatroom server, some even said that it was a p2p system to interchange files, other people said it was an extension to XMPP even

If people understood what Matrix actually is, it could take off a lot more easily

@rich To some extent I think that's down to early adopter syndrome. I join loads of new platforms and in the early days they're all like this.

This is just on a bigger scale because it's taken off quickly, but it's not too different on the #disrootorgand #matrixdotorg #chats

We had to create a new #grapheneos:grapheneos.org chat room to work around state reset bugs in Matrix protocol / server software. Previous room had ~15000 members and is redirected through the room upgrade, but it's not seamless. You need to explicitly join the new room.

List of our public chat rooms is available at https://grapheneos.org/contact#community… with links to join through the official Element web client if you're new to Matrix. It's as good a time as any to join our chat rooms. A positive side to needing a room upgrade is that the main room is faster.

Finde ich prinzipiell auch, steht aber meinem Wunsch nach Ende zu Ende Verschlüsselung und föderierten Systemen wie #matrixdotorg oder dem #fediverse entgegen. Da fehlen die Informationen zum Inhalt ja.
Könnt ihr das Dilemma nachvollziehen, oder habt ihr Lösungsideen?
