I've created an account on Matrix.org, for now, until I find a better home server or decide to run my own, lol

Wenn ich jetzt einen kleinen privaten #Matrix-Server aufsetzen wollte...
Der Scope ist: Der Freundeskreis unserer Kinder sollen sich techoligarchenfrei und sicher unterhalten können. Dabei die Möglichkeiten eines modernen Messengers nutzen und kennenlernen können, aber ohne der Gefahr von Überwachung oder Fremdkontakten die von außen irgendwelche Spam/Scam-Anfragen schicken können.

Was würdet ihr mir raten. Einfach das Debian-Paket von Synapse, oder in einer Kubernetes/K3s Umgebung das Helmchart von Element Pro.

Der Matrix-Server soll auch - zumindest anfangs, solange die Kids noch so jung sind - nicht föderieren (maximal mit meinem persönlichen Matrix-Server).
Ich würde die Eltern der Freunde einladen, dass sie ihren Kindern das gestatten und ihnen auch einen Account anbieten, damit sie mit ihren Kindern in Kontakt treten können.
Smartphones sind leider schon sehr verbreitet... aber glücklicherweise noch ohne Wattsepp & Co.

Meine Gedanken waren zwar bislang "Fix kein Smartphone"... aber mittlerweile haben wir uns auf einen anderen Gedanken verständigt... NOCH sind unsere Kids formbar und nehmen von uns Eltern noch Ideen an. Wenn ich einen verantwortungsvollen Umgang mit Smartphone & Co bei den Kids haben will, muss ich JETZT einsteigen und mit den Kids all das durchnehmen und praktisch leben, was in der "Digitalen Grundbildung" der Schule offensichtlich völlig hinten runter fällt.

In 2-3 Jahren geben uns die Kinder den Weisel. Jetzt können sie noch von uns annehmen...

Also denke ich auch über weitere nichtföderierende Fedi-Services wie Pixelfed und Friendica nach, um den Kids den Austausch untereinander zu ermöglichen, ohne dass sie mit all dem Scheiß der großen Techno-Plattformen konfrontiert werden müssen.

@Maybelline From my readings, it feels like Synapse or Conduwuit is the way to go and that Dendrite development has come to a slow crawl. I don't *know* this, but that would be my, so far, aggregated analysis.

Kennt ihr das Problem, dass ihr mit keinem anderen #Matrixserver Kontakt aufnehmen könnt? ich hab hier für die Arbeit einen Matrix server aufgesetzt, der ansich für interne kommunikation soweit funktioniert, aber wenn ich versuche mit dem zu anderen usern auf anderen servern Kontakt aufzunehmen bekomme ich schlicht timeouts.
Der federationtester sagt auch, alles korrekt eingetragen.

Dig up a 2 year old video tutorial, suddenly it all just... works.

Virtual Machine is installing on my Cloud Server, ready to start installing the server-side Matrix protocols and see if I can get this shit working before I start trying to set up the bridging protocols.

Turns out that hosting my own matrix server is still a bit outside of my skillset. I'll probably just end up renting a server if I can get an affordable host in the meantime.
