Next time you have to explain to someone why it’s better to not eat meat, you can tell them that it is to make sure that the next asteroid impact will not prevent electronic life from knowing the universe.
In his last book, "Novacene", #Lovelock is again both thought-provoking and outright insane.

having read this piece on #Lovelock now I realise it's rather important stuff for #astrobiology - on the origin of the ideas that life on another planet can be detected by the off-equilibrium composition of its #atmosphere.
Also important to note that much of that came from #DianHitchcock, whose name was new to me.

This reminds me of the #Daisyworld (the model developed by #Lovelock to demonstrate the #Gaia hypothesis), where black daisies (#CO2, etc) reduce #albedo & warm the planet.
