  1. Public water should not be put up for sale, ever. I'm not confident about this coalition because words are important - their words sound like they are OK negotiating sales of public water - it sounds like covert greenwashing. We need degrowth of ecocide industries & watershed protection for ecological, environmental & human rights purposes - above all other purposes.
Commodifying public water is not in the best interests of the public.

  2. Right now, #BritishColumbia has the lowest industrial #water rates in #Canada - effectively giving away one of our most vital #PublicResources to some of the world’s largest industries. Meanwhile, communities are left struggling to fund the response to worsening droughts, floods, wildfires, and drinking water crises.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

Bringing BC’s industrial water rates in line with other provinces is a fair, practical way to:

    Fund stronger watershed security
    Support sustainable economic growth.
Keep communities safe and resilient to floods, fires, and water shortages.
Safeguard BC jobs, grow food, and protect the economy — every industry depends on water.
Do it all without costing taxpayers a dime.
This is a simple, fair, and fiscally responsible solution that will build long-term watershed security across BC.

Investing in #WatershedSecurity aligns with the values of a significant majority of voters, as 78% of British Columbians want to see major investments from the provincial government to protect freshwater in BC.

  7. New 'Thought Policing' Bill May Let #Rubio Strip #Passports from #USCitizens Over Political Speech | Common Dreams

    Stephen Prager
    Sep 13, 2025

"#FreeSpeech advocates are sounding the alarm about a bill in the US House of Representatives that they fear could allow Secretary of State #MarcoRubio to strip US citizens of their passports based purely on political speech.

"The bill, introduced by Rep. #BrianMast (R-Fla.), will come up for a hearing on Wednesday. According to The Intercept:

:Mast’s new bill claims to target a narrow set of people. One section grants the secretary of state the power to revoke or refuse to issue passports for people who have been convicted—or merely charged—of material support for terrorism...

"The other section sidesteps the legal process entirely. Rather, the secretary of state would be able to deny passports to people whom they determine 'has knowingly aided, assisted, abetted, or otherwise provided material support to an organization the Secretary has designated as a foreign terrorist organization.'

"Rubio has previously boasted of stripping the visas and green cards from several immigrants based purely on their peaceful expression of #ProPalestine views, describing them as '#Hamas supporters.'

"These include Columbia protest leader #MahmoudKhalil, who was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (#ICE) after Rubio voided his green card; and #RumeysaOzturk, the Tufts student whose visa Rubio revoked after she co-wrote an op-ed calling for her school to divest from #Israel.

"Mast—a former soldier for the #IsraelDefenseForces who once stated that babies were 'not innocent Palestinian civilians' — has previously called for 'kicking terrorist sympathizers out of our country,' speaking about the Trump administration’s attempts to deport Khalil, who was never convicted or even charged with support for a terrorist group.

"Critics have argued that the bill has little reason to exist other than to allow the Secretary of State to unilaterally strip passports from people without them actually having been convicted of a crime."

  8. Speaking of my friend #BrendaNorrell , #CensoredNews is in need of donations to keep telling the news that isn't covered by MSM or a lot of #NativeAmerican news outlets. Brenda used to work for Indian Country Today until she reported on some stories they did not want to get out -- thus censored news! She's been an invaluable resource to me since the 1990s, so if you can, please donate and/or boost the signal!

  9. Millions of people around the world celebrate #WorldRiversDay on the fourth Sunday of September. This event was started in 1980 in BC by Mark Angelo, river conservationist, and the BC Outdoor Recreation Council. From there Mark's vision has encircled the globe. In 2017, 2018 and 2021, Cowichan Tribes and the Cowichan #Stewardship Roundtable co-hosted #QuwutsunRiver Day. #Cowichan Tribes is the largest band in BC and is active on many fronts doing #RiverStewardship. Cowichan Stewardship Roundtable was founded with Cowichan Tribes and #conservation groups more than 20 years ago. It is a #grassroots group promoting collaboration on solving #watershed issues.

Sunday, Sept. 21: 🌲 Gather with #CowichanTribes and the #CowichanStewardship #Roundtable to celebrate Quw'utsun Sta'lo' Skweyul (Cowichan River Day). Enjoy a performance by the Tzinquaw Dancers, learn Quw'utsun teachings, make salmon art, meet birds of prey and so much more from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m

  10. Is a River Alive is well researched, very readable, and informed by an #Indigenous #worldview as expressed by Robin Wall Kimmerer. Facts are balanced with loving narratives of #waterprotectors in 3 case studies. #Water keepers understand #ecosystems kindoms and their place within them. Macfarlane is hopeful while challenging readers to #decolonize. The ancient Epic of Gilgamesh, story of greed has a place in this book as it did in Elif Shafak's There are Rivers in the Sky.

"I don't rock 'n' roll, nah, I stand and rock (Standin' Rock, yi)
I think there's something in the water, here's some food for thought
Is it really a felony for wanting my water clean?
Expect us not to rage against the machine
We ain't movin' like Rosa P, nope
You know why, 'cause this dreamcatcher's catchin' your pipe dream
    Look what happened to Flint
No disrespect, but the same happens to village kids that sip water from the tap
And they're dyin' to live from the cancer it gives
Where's the state of emergency for them?
Act like you know the story

His loving portrayals of the #waterprotectors / #water keepers reflect Kimmmer's principles of stewardship of the natural world as our responsibility as members of our #ecosystems 'kindoms'. The #river keepers have as Kimmerer might say, a decolonized mindset.

#DakotaAccessPipeline opponents aim to hold law enforcement accountable for brutal tactics

    Tuesday, November 14, 2017

"Opponents of the Dakota Access Pipeline are planning to move forward with their police brutality lawsuit despite a setback in the courts.

"The lawsuit accuses law enforcement in North Dakota of engaging in illegal tactics against pipeline opponents. The lead plaintiff is Vanessa Dundon, a citizen of the Navajo Nation who has nearly lost all of the vision in her right eye after being shot in the face last November during a clash with Morton County Sheriff Kyle Kirchmeier and his forces.

"In February, as the months-long #NoDAPL encampment was winding down, a federal judge declined to order Kirchmeier to stand down so the plaintiffs pursued an appeal. But the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals, in a short decision on Tuesday, said the judge made the right call, The Associated Press reported.

"Despite the setback, the #WaterProtectorLegalCollective, a group of attorneys who have been representing pipeline opponents, plan to take their case to trial. The case had been put on hold during the appeal.

" 'The preliminary injunction is denied, but we will continue our fight for a permanent injunction and to ensure that the state pays for their indiscriminate use of excessive force,' Terry Janis, the group's executive director, said in a press release on Tuesday.

" 'Although we are certainly disappointed by the decision today, we remain determined to see justice in this case,' added lead attorney Rachel Lederman.

"The February 7 decision against a preliminary injunction came on the same day the #Trump administration approved the final portion of the pipeline. A different federal judge later said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers took action without fully considering objections raised by opponents.

"By that time, the $3.8 billion pipeline had already been completed and was shipping oil. The judge has since refused to halt operations while the Army Corps comes up with a new analysis that addresses tribal concerns. An answer isn't expected until spring 2018."

  21. #Diné Coalition Opposes #Navajo President's Push for #CoalMining and #Uranium Transport

Dine' Coalition Press Statement, #CensoredNews, April 17, 2025

WINDOW ROCK, Arizona -- "A coalition of grassroots groups released a statement in response to recent announcements and actions by #NavajoNation President #BuuNygren regarding coal development, carbon market deals, and potential new mining projects.

"The coalition will host a Press Conference from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (MDT) on Monday, April 21, 2025, outside the Navajo Nation Council Chambers during the first day of the Navajo Nation Council’s Spring Session. Please bring a folding chair, water, hats, and sunscreen, and dress appropriately for the weather to keep yourself safe and comfortable during the Press Conference.

    "Summary of full statement:

    ● We call on the Navajo Nation President to stop making deals that degrade our land, water, and future.

    ● We urge tribal leaders not to repeat historical mistakes with respect to uranium extraction: Leave this Nayee’, Łeetso, in the ground. The cleanup and remediation of hundreds of abandoned mines must be completed, prioritizing public health safety and ecosystem health.

    ● We stand against the transport of uranium ore across the Navajo Nation because it is inconsistent with the intent of the Navajo Radioactive and Related Substances, Equipment, Persons and Materials Transportation Act of 2012, regardless of jurisdictional limits on our highways and roads.

    ● We steadfastly OPPOSE coal development, which negatively impacts the lands, water, and health of the Navajo people and contributes to #ClimateChange.

    ● We stand in protection of our water, health, traditional lifeways, Earth bundles (#Jish), and #MotherEarth.

"We call on all Diné #LandDefenders, #WaterProtectors, healers, young leaders, #matriarchs and warriors to stand together at WINDOW ROCK on APRIL 21, 2025. Together, we will make our voices heard and remind our Navajo Nation government that they are entrusted to make decisions that protect our People and protect our sacred homelands.
Statement from Diné Coalition of Grassroots Organizers in response to Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren’s recent statements and actions regarding uranium, carbon markets, coal, and
    other harmful extractive processes.
We are a coalition of Diné organizers, land defenders, water protectors, traditional knowledge holders, matriarchs, and young leaders. We are calling on our Diné people to stand united in protecting Mother Earth and our sacred homelands and waterways.

"The Nygren Administration’s recent statements and actions do not reflect the
will of the Diné People, and we call on our Navajo Nation Council to ensure that such actions are not taken in violation of our Free, Prior, and Informed Consent.

"With the Trump administration’s announced intent to ramp up production of 'mission-critical' uranium,
the private energy offenders are again targeting Diné lands with no intention of ensuring public health, safety, or environmental health. Diné land and water protectors understand that energy offenders operate through systematic #racism that does not adhere to

  27. #StandingRock Chair on #Greenpeace Verdict -- False, Self-serving Narrative in Insulting Lawsuit

"If Greenpeace can be held liable for telling the truth about #SiouxNation Treaty rights, then we are all in trouble."

By Standing Rock Chairwoman Janet Alkire, via #CensoredNews, March 27, 2025

"As Chairwoman of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, I take offense to the jury verdict in the #EnergyTransfer #SLAPP lawsuit against Greenpeace. We expect more from #NorthDakota judges and members of the jury from our neighboring communities.

"#EnergyTransfer’s claims in this case were ridiculous. They were wholly disrespectful of the #StandingRockSioux Tribe, our ancestors, and our youth, who started the movement in 2016 to protect our water from an oil spill from #DAPL. Neither Greenpeace nor anyone else paid or persuaded Standing Rock to oppose DAPL.

"Our young people and our elders urged us to protect our water and #UnciMakah (grandmother earth). That is what happened, and is happening still. Energy Transfer’s false and self-serving narrative that Greenpeace manipulated Standing Rock into protesting DAPL is patronizing and disrespectful to our people.

"We understand that many Morton County residents support the #OilIndustry, even out-of-state #pipeline companies such as Energy Transfer. But we are your neighbors, and you should not be fooled that easily. Energy Transfer does not know us. They don’t know who we are – an Indigenous Nation that has survived every attack because our ancestors are with us.

"Greenpeace did not manipulate Standing Rock, but #EnergyTransfer has manipulated #MortonCounty. DAPL crosses our Treaty and aboriginal land for hundreds of miles.

"Our ancestors occupied this land for thousands of years before #NorthDakota came into existence. The land between the Heart and Missouri River are our #unceded Treaty lands under the 1868 and 1851 Fort Laramie Treaties. Our aboriginally-occupied territories extend east to the James River and beyond. That is a historical truth. If Greenpeace can be held liable for telling the truth about Sioux Nation Treaty rights, then we are all in trouble.

"The construction of Fort Rice on our northern boundary in 1864 was a violation of the Fort Laramie Treaties. This required our Tribe to be vigilant. No one should be surprised that warrior society burials are found in this area, near the pipeline route.

"And do not insult our cultural experts, who have wisdom over matters most residents of Morton County or bureaucrats at the State Historical Society know absolutely nothing about. Energy Transfer and its lawyers should be ashamed of themselves. Everyday North Dakotans on the jury should know better.

"When it comes to the excessive police and private security response to the generally peaceful protests at #CannonBall, believe your eyes. The scenes of guard dogs menacing Tribal members are reminiscent of the violence of #WhiteSupremacists in the #DeepSouth during the 1950’s and 60’s, but it was in North Dakota, in this day and age. It was on the news and on the internet.

"Many of the protesters were Native American veterans of the United States armed forces. Energy Transfer used attack dogs against peaceful protesters and war heroes. But the jury sided with the out-of-state, unlicensed security with the attack dogs, instead of North Dakota veterans who supported Standing Rock.

"A Texas oil company has come to North Dakota, and its lawyers and propaganda machine are weaving stories about how the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and our supporters have lied, and how the poor pipeline company, a trillion dollars richer than in 2016 when this all started, should receive extra millions from non-profit organizations. It’s a funny thing about liars – they always accuse everyone else of lying. The Greenpeace trial was marked by secrecy.

"The court is not making the transcript public. The documents obtained by Greenpeace about Energy Transfer’s terrible safety record are protected by a secrecy order and are not available to the public. The judge exhibited so much bias in favor of Energy Transfer that a team of international human rights lawyers felt compelled to monitor the trial. One prominent monitor stated 'In my six decades of legal practice, I have never witnessed a trial as unfair as the one against Greenpeace that just ended in the courts of North Dakota.'

"Standing Rock has tried to work for greater transparency on DAPL. It is our experience with the Army Corps of Engineers and Energy Transfer that all documents relating to DAPL pipeline safety are heavily redacted, and kept secret. What are they hiding? Who is looking out for the communities that may be affected by an oil spill? And why didn’t the North Dakota court allow Greenpeace to address these questions at the trial?

"DAPL is a dangerous pipeline. It crosses our unceded Treaty and aboriginal land. Energy Transfer destroyed Tribal burials as identified by our cultural experts, and committed violence against our people. That is the history that North Dakota and Morton County must reckon with. After the Greenpeace verdict, that day seems farther off than ever."

  32. Defenders in #Appalachia Against #MountainValleyPipeline Avoided #FelonyCharges

"Initially we were charged with #conspiracy. The real conspiracy is between the #prosecutors and the #judges, between the #cops and the #corporations."

    By #AppalachiansAgainstPipelines, #CensoredNews, March 3, 2025

"Last Tuesday, 12 pipeline fighters had court in Giles County for charges resulting from three different actions against the Mountain Valley Pipeline in 2023 and 2024 in and around the #JeffersonNationalForest, including one site where #MVP was drilling through the mountain under the #AppalachianTrail.

"Eleven of the defendants accepted non-cooperating plea deals -- all of them were facing absurd felony charges, including
felony abduction and felony 'unauthorized use of a vehicle.' In the end, they plead to misdemeanor charges and there were NO felony convictions. They were sentenced to community service, probation, and to pay restitution. The court room was PACKED all day long with supporters!"

"Prince declined to comment, and the other contractors and former immigration officials listed as key personnel in the document also declined to comment or could not be reached.

"The founders of the new special entity called #2USV have a long history with the U.S. government. Blackwater was formed by Prince in 1996 to provide training services to law enforcement, military personnel and other government agencies. It gained widespread attention for its work in Iraq and Afghanistan, providing security services for U.S. officials and military personnel, with critics viewing its rise as a result of the U.S. military’s overextension in the Middle East.

The military contractor came under scrutiny in 2007 following the #NisourSquareMassacre, when #Blackwater contractors opened fire and killed 17 Iraqi civilians and wounded 20 others — raising questions about oversight and accountability of private contractors. Several contractors were charged with manslaughter, and four were convicted in 2014. Trump pardoned them at the end of his first term in December 2020.

"Trump’s pardon was just one example of the influence of Prince’s family during the first Trump administration. #BetsyDeVos, Prince’s sister, served as the president’s #Education secretary, while Prince used his Trump connections as he chased business ventures in the U.S. and abroad.
