It's not difficult to extrapolate from an understanding of #homeostasis as noted in individuals to population and ecological community levels. Alas, #fossilfuel companies encouraged #Lovelock and #Margulis in their #Gaia research, as it was surmised their findings would lull the general public to believe the earth would self-regulate regardless of levels of pollution. It probably did help with the propaganda.
To maintain homeostasis, however, always requires an #EROEI. We have dysregulated the ecological homeostasis. When it costs as much to sell and ship an item as we can make from doing so, we will stop doing so. Ships, aircraft, trains, barges and trucks are vulnerable to this. WE are vulnerable to this. >>

@RichardJMurphy Great conversation about the #semantics of all this last weekend, with nephew's Italian wife (at #DownHouse!). She'd been taught about 'survival of the strongest' and we talked about translations and meaning, a well-fitting shoe rather than the biggest or strongest shoe, and then the origins of the chloroplast... #Margulis and #Ostrom trump #Dawkins and #Hardin, if it's a competition between theories (Ikr)

Wenn man just for fun einer banalen Idee folgend in die Suchmaschine die Worte Homo Sensorium eingibt (die verbundene Spezies aus #Sense8), nur um zu schauen, welche Ergebnisse ausser denen zu Sense8 es noch dazu gibt - und man dann über einen Text stolpert, der einen zu James #Lovelock|s und Lynn #Margulis #GaiaHypothese bringt.
Schätze, ich werd das mal lesen, schon viel zu oft darüber gehört. Klingt auf jeden Fall interessant. 🙃😊 -
