This week's game is Strahl (aka Triad Stone), an interactive movie about a guy's journey to become king and change the world. This one's far more forgiving than other games like it and you get a lot of chances to change the story (48 endings!), so it's quite a pleasant ride:

Gained EXP and Levelled Up! Ordered some stuff with #fromjapan and had it shipped to HK and a friend brought it back some time ago. Saw him yesterday and now I finally have one, the #pcengine disguised as a #pioneer GPS nav device for cars. No doubt a child of the #laseractive team-up. #retrogaming

Years ago, I gave away a van full of #Laserdiscs because, I too, inherited a large #LD collection. So I kept all the #disney, #anime, & my favorite LD films. So after all these years, I needed to upgrade storage for my small but always slowly growing ld collection. Now I can keep all of my film ld, #laseractive games, #snk #Capcom #videogame strategy lds, & the big collector boxes in one place. Repurpose #vinyl #records storage for LDs.

Started re-capping the good #laseractive #megadrive PAC and just noticed it needs 34x (!) 16V 10uF smd caps which I don't have that many of. Nor do I have non-,polar d caps of which it needs 2 (on this board). Guess I will do as much as I can for now. #retrogaming #retromodding

Did the karaoke PAC, PC-Engine PAC so now it's time for the #megadrive PAC. Never used the one I bought 20 years ago much, should be ok inside, less fading of the stickers. Not sure about the other one, got that half a year ago so I can sell my other CLD-100 with a PAC. #retrorevival #laseractive

Soldered the replacement ceramic caps, using 0805 25V 4.7uF (475). Lets see if it is any better. And cleaned up. #pcengine #laseractive

So what's next? Let's stay with #laseractive, my #pcengine PAC is still not all it can be, so let's try to fix the jailbar problem. It's well documented, so should not be too difficult (I hope).

Chose another game, F Project, a F1 management/racing sim I think. Booted, first game screen has save option, saved, reset, chose continue and saw my save (LV.1). It works! Yay for me! #pcengine #laseractive

Finished. Wasn't sure if I could use FM18W08 FRAM (256kb) instead of FM16W08 (64kb) so I reached out to @zaxour.bsky.social and he told me he designed to accommodate both. Time to catch some sleep, can still get 4 hours of sleep. Will be testing it tomorrow night. #pcengine #laseractive

No glue. Removed some of the solder with wick first, then used the heat gun at 340°C, would not come off. Set at 370°C, gave it some more time, then managed to pry it off. Cleaned pads, positioned the flex, soldered two points to keep it in place and then the rest. #laseractive #pcengine

Came in #fromjapan. Got some (affordable) #laseractive games for #megadrive and #pcengine so I can actually use the LD part of the machine. Also started a retro game music #vinyl collection. Beware! Vinyl collecting may be contagious, my neighbour is a record head.

Yes! Neighbour dropped off some stuff I asked him to bring back from the US. Need to pick up and finish some projects again. 2x rgbsv for the #laseractive (with the new time saving wired connector), pac atrack, pac world and fram flex for the #pcengine laseractive pac, new fram flex for saturn. 2x hyperflash32 and 2x usb-c adapters for the #virtualboy. also got 2 repro virtualboy stands, eyeshade and a 5.5mm gamebit screwdriver for the super famicom box.

Finished recapping the #pcengine PAC for the #laseractive. Also tested it and it still works. Phew. All that's left now is the #sega #megadrive PAC (and the the NEC Laseractive) and I can move on to the next consoles.

Works with the #pcengine PAC as well! I will add this to the list of successes. Running a bootleg version of Ninja Spirit. Now to figure out where all the parts I have left over need to go before I put the rest back together...

After replacing the ICPs and taking lots of time removing the front and drive so I could also replace the remaining 3 caps on them I got about halfway re-assembling the #laseractive. Time to call it a day and also remembered I wanted to RGB mod it and don't have the parts yet.

Last week I tested my #laseractive because a friend wanted to test his PAC. He dropped by today. After I turned on the LA it started to smell like an old #gamegear, nothing else. Power led blinks red once and then nothing. nothing on the screen either. Now I don't have an excuse to wait with the recap anymore. Except time of course...

Does anyone around here happen to have a Laseractive + PC Engine PAC + the game Super Darius OR Gradius 2 so I could test something real quick?
There's something that happens in mine. I don't know if it's just me or a general bug with these units and it's driving me nuts.
