One of my "holy grail" #Laserdiscs just arrived!
CAPTAIN SUPERMARKET!
The western version of the film had some boring title like #EvilDead 3 #ArmyOfDarkness, but only Japan released it with the true, superior title.

The system used an array of #Laserdiscs to store raw film footage. The players were linked to a control box that was controlled by a SUN Microsystems computer that allowed you to recall footage, make an edit decision list, it kept track of film frame numbers, and had many advanced features that allowed a classical film editor to use the system.
It interfaced with a jog shuttle knob to control the video.

Tonight I finally watched one of the #laserdiscs that I got while I was in Japan last month.
"Who Am I?" - one of my favourite #JackieChan films. So much fun and great to finally see the full length Hong Kong cut which has different editing and is around 10 mins longer. Great 5.1 AC3 track too!

Really hard to find info on the blue and purple parrots, but they are backup support it seems otherwise!
They appear to be fully licensed products down to a very small PIONEER stamp/insignia found within the attached loop tag near the feet.

A friend is heading to #London for a few days and is asking for any recommendations for places to find #Laserdiscs.
The only place I've ever found them on my visits is Sister Ray's. Any other suggestions?
In my experience London is pretty poor for #Retro tech shopping.

For those of you who have never seen a #laserdisc player change sides!
It's a crazy design! The whole laser pickup flips to the opposite side of the machine while the disc stops, changes direction and speeds up again.
I assume all the stabilisation hardware built into the pickup made it too expensive to add one for each side. Either way you'd still have to wait for the disc to stop, change direction, and speed up again.

Decided to test our Pioneer DVL-700 Laserdisc player ... and it still works like a charm! The brake assembly scared me a little in the first disc (didn't slow it down fast enough to STOP and eject) but it was just dust. Trying a second, then a third disc cleared it right up.
If you're curious, I played bits and pieces of Apollo 13, Judge Dredd, and First Blood :)
