I've done it! With the help of an old TV Guardian, all VHS and LaserDisc movies I stream to Fedi friends will have closed captions!!! :neocat_aww:
For anyone who maybe finds this and wants to try something similar, I highly recommend tracking down one of these as they use composite cables (which removes a lot of the hard work of converting things to make stuff function).

Think I found the problem, lol. Right above that blue guy there is the remnants of another electrolytic, and right below it is a smaller 2.2μF that appears to have had a somewhat less spectacular failure.
So assuming I didn't break anything tearing it down, this should be a very cheap and easy fix.

I also purchased this Highlander Directors Cut on #LaserDisc which incidentally is a rather late laserdisc produced in 1996 it seems.
Quite excited to have this one on LaserDisc finally.

Next weekend, 12th April, is the 35th Anniversary of #Highlander 2 here in the UK! (The US had to wait until November to get their butchered cut)
My plan was to watch the Hong Kong #laserdisc (the only known official (ish) release of the International Cut of the film with the original English soundtrack) but I'm going to be away all next weekend and can't take a laserdisc player with me...so tonight will do.
Also I fancied an Ardbeg tonight instead of Glenmorangie again.

In Taiwan early 90s, "MTVs" were like video stores but with laser discs, & when you picked a film, you'd go to a private room with a big screen TV, surround sound & a sofa. 1st saw Terminator 2, Ninja Turtles & Miami Blues that way.
