So, I was going to put in an image of the Shinryu Sensen world map, but i wasn't happy with the file size i was getting vs image size/quality. So i will just drop a link instead.

I swear I have seen a map that looks nearly identical to this in sample maps of RPG Maker XP.

I am trying to figure out what the scariest thing about Shinryu Sensen: War of the Dead is.

Is it that the game has a massive overworld?
Random encounters and a gameplay style that is reminiscent of Zelda 2?
Or could it be the password system, that requires 60 characters?

The real kicker about the password system, when you die, the game does not give you an option to continue, nor does it have any way of retaining passwords that the game has generated.

So if you die, which will happen a lot during the early part of the game, you have to have written down the password yourself or just take the loss and restart from the very beginning.

The game isn't short either, well, it kind of is but, you have to haul yourself doing A LOT of back and forth to various locations.

I appreciate how password systems like this work, effectively needing lots of data points to accurately recreate your saved state. But damn... The lack of password retention sucks.

#pcengine game Kazekiri in the showcase. According to the Retro Game Collector app, this is my most valuable PC-Engine game. JUNK showcase #ps5 controller for 3300Y (has stick drift), got this as my last buy. Also saw a working one in the shoo selling for 6600Y. #retrogaming

The last Hard-Off before we return the car and go to KIX airport. We have the Retro Freak (popular Japanese brand for retro gaming hardware) console that plays physical #famicom #superfamicom #megadrive and #pcengine games with HDMI output. #retrogaming

Controller heaven here. They had 3 Micomsoft XE-1 Crab Controllers! One of my favourite buys of this trip. It is for #megadrive, but also works with #pcengine with an adapter with 4 supported games. #snes pachinko controller. #famicom single button controllers? Telecom controller for SNES as well.

#pcfx SCSI adapter, use your PC-FX as a CD drive on your #pc98 computer. PC-FX Backup RAM, #pcengine IR remote (without receiver). Poster of my current holy grail, the PC-Engine Monitor. A #wonderswan fishbdetection sonar device. #retrogaming

I've never held a HuCard. I've never even seen a HuCard in person. But the magnificence of it is undeniable.

I wish we could experience the alternate future where NEC and Hudson were still major players in the console space.
