CampOUT weekend at West Forty RV Park in Gilbert, MN — about 40 LGBTQIA+ folks camping together on the Iron Range, timed with Range Iron Pride.
We took 2nd in the campsite decorating contest. 🏳️🌈
Judging was at 9pm, just after dusk, so it came down to lighting: a 48ft addressable string hung as one arc, static Pride gradient. Static beat animated — judges never see a full cycle.
Booked next year before we left.

Minnesota Iron Range mine to lay off ~600 workers as two mines temporarily close.
Don't let the companies spin this news.
This is a #Trumprecession headed toward us like a taconite train.

No surprise from me that a #wind #advisory is in effect for the #TwinPorts, #IronRange and #I35 corridor regions of the #Northland for the next several hours.
Current wind #gusts are in the 30 to 50 mph range
The worst is on the #Blatnik Bridge. Gusts have surpassed 60 mph, and possibly as high as 76 mph!
Hold on tight out there!

RECAP OF 2024 IN THE NORTHLAND: PART THREE
It's time to look at two of the #Northland communities that reside in heart of the #IronRange and northwest #Wisconsin, and see how #warm and #dry(?) their #weather was last year
Here's more on Hibbing and Spooner. Enjoy:
-
8:30 P.M. #RADAR UPDATE:
Scattered #snow #showers continue to move through the #Northland.
The heaviest snow has just past the #IronRange, and will pass through the #TwinPorts over the next hour, and eventually the #SouthShore later tonight.
-
5 P.M. #WEATHER UPDATE:
The #severe #weather threat for the #Northland continues. The main focus currently is the inches of #rainfall over the #IronRange and Rainy River Basin.
#Flash #Flood #Warnings are in place through the evening with reports of #flooded #streets across these areas.
The #showers and #thunderstorms will continue through the rest of the region this evening and early overnight.
-
A WET START TO JUNE:
For the second time in three days, a significant #rain event took place in the #Northland.
Locations in the northern I-35 corridor, the #IronRange, and the western #Arrowhead saw the highest #rainfall of 1.5 to 3 inches.
Everyone saw at last 0.50", with plenty more seeing over 1".
-
8 P.M. #RADAR UPDATE:
The #IronRange continues to see the bulk of the #showers so far this evening, but other regions are getting in on the #wet action.
Everyone will see showers at times tonight and Thursday.
-
4 P.M. #RADAR UPDATE:
The first line of #showers is moving through the #Northland from our next #storm system. The biggest impact over the next few hours will be the #IronRange
Nothing more than #light or #moderate #rainfall is expected through the evening, but a few spots could see a #downpour with the next batch of showers coming tonight.
-
4:10 #RADAR UPDATE:
#Rain showers have returned to the #Northland, with the heaviest #precipitation ready to pass over the #IronRange.
Be aware that #ponding could occur with some of these stronger rain bands through this evening.
-
5:30 UPDATE:
The line of #strong #thunderstorms in northwest #Wisconsin, formerly #severe, is moving out of the region.
Meanwhile, more widely scattered storms, some strong, are forming in the #IronRange and #Rainy #River Basin. They will continue to pass through this evening, but should not become severe. -
Happy Sunday #Northland!
Most of us are enjoying a #dry and #seasonal #summer day with some sun filtering through the light clouds and smoky #haze.
However, some in the #IronRange are dealing with #showers and #thunderstorms as a front passes through. People west of the #TwinPorts and Highway 53 could possibly see rain through this evening.
(This would look better with pictures, but I can't upload images right now, sorry!)
-
8:50 RADAR UPDATE:
#Showers and #thunderstorms continue to move to the east in the #Northland. They are staying below #severe level.
However, a few cells in the #IronRange and just west of the #TwinPorts could have gusty winds and small hail. Including this area circled on the #radar.
-
It may be #dry for most of the Northland, but #clouds are building.
A line of #showers and #storms are passing through just north of the #IronRange, heading slowly to the east. A few could have gusty #winds, but probably not become severe.
Expect more to continue to move through the region this afternoon and evening.

A nice light ski in the woods on my day off. 20 deg F, light snow falling, perfect grip and glide. It doesn't get any better.
