#hashtagging — Public Fediverse posts

Live and recent posts from across the Fediverse tagged #hashtagging, aggregated by home.social.

  1. just realized that #hashtagging random #words is the same behavior as Capitalizing random Words

  2. Chorizo, olive, and Comté (cheese) #scones tonight with some homemade veg soup .. had to substitute in some oil instead of the usual butter as I'd run out and nothing much is open (apart from the insanely expensive little shops) #cooking #baking #hashtagging

  3. @kkarhan #Hashtagging random things doesn't help anyone. You only need to tag the actual topics of the post. And only once per conversation at that.

  4. Over there on algorithm-driven social platforms I thought I sucked at #hashtagging because my posts went largely ignored. Mastodon has taught me that I probably suck at creating content.

    I dunno...

The person who asked on the podcast is way more reasonable than the person (@kapsar) who assumed bad faith from the get go without putting even in the slightest effort to investigate.

    Even if I still don't get the point of #hashtagging #every #noun in a #toot.

🥥 I do hope that your experience of the #Fediverse will improve as you do more #hashtagging and following of people you like, @BeforeWisdom.

  8. @jeff @ericdano @mikeblake @carnage4life Something I've long suspected keeps hashtag traffic down: I'm perfectly happy for anyone to search my posts, but I don't want to look like a #selfpromoting #hashtagging #SEO #spammer in all my #mastodon posts. Also, if you use #inlinehashtags, #hashtagslookbad and #hashtagsarenotreadable.

Basically, I feel like there are more drawbacks from including hashtags (people that follow me thinking my posts are spammy and/or low quality) than including them (making my posts [barely] searchable).

  13. @lohang

Use #hashtags is all we recommend at this stage. We just find them so important on fediverse.

While #writingPosts we tend to turn all #definingNouns and important #concepts into a hashtag. It just makes this so much easier in future, and we like the idea of finding only truely relevent posts later.

  14. The way people format their posts here is so funny. It’s like the early days of Twitter. Are we really going back to #hashtagging #every #word?

  15. CW: Mastodon user request/suggestion

With #hashtagging being a significantly more important component of #Mastodon, compared to more algorithm-curated social media, it would be handy to have an emoji-like menu containing your followed (or favourited) hashtags that can be one-clicked into a post
Does anyone know about client or server-side #addons for Mastodon?

  16. @Carmenloup Run FediFinder to find folks who have come over. Works pretty slick. Make sure you include #hashtagging in all your toota 😀

  17. @theosanderson well that's obviously #excessive but if we all get better at #hashtagging #KeyWords there's no reason it would be hard to find a subject of interest where your input/eyes are welcome. I think a lot of us tried to minimise hashtags on #Twitter, we just have to change our #habits a bit.

  18. @Happenstance
Our admin guided us to not even use the term "BigTech" as that is also their term. We have since used #dotCons, and we also think its more accurate.

We also use (#)CAGEFAM when we want to express to people that their is an easy acronym to remember that lists #GAFAM, c'flare and #memecoiner/turdSiteBuyer.

When we must we also make sure to deface their name when #hashtagging, ie. #amAZON, #goOGlE (the 'L' is lower case) + oft use degoratory names in prose (Scamazon, Fakebook etc).

  19. @kzimmermann
We just did a hashtag search for #stickers.

We couldn't find a single example of #fdroidStickers or #bitcoinStickers pretty sure they exist though (ie. we've seen them before).

Maybe the hashtag search is shot. Or an instance is blocked again. :(

  20. @syndikalista No.

I rely on external Web search, principally DDG, though teh g00g is occasionally more comprehensive.

    Copious #hashtagging helps.
