Assholes Will Always Exist
Over the years they've been called a lot of things. Some of the terms, these miscreants actually donned like a cape or wore the disparaging noun as a badge of honor:
- #cracker
- #list_bully
- #foreign_agent
- #incel
- #phishermen
- #spammer
- #blackhatThe list is truly, much too long to collate in a single fly by topical mention; and that's really not the point of what I'm writing about here either. What is absolutely pernicious, is the #MiTM style attack on software distribution rising to a level where even the source cannot be held in high confidence.
When these atrocious acts become the commonplace verbs to the infamous nouns above it is time that each and every one of us stand vigil and at the ready to come to the aid of our community members. Modern bot marketing meta. This comment was on the latest Kurzgesagt video on YouTube but it could be posted on any video. It's written to seem relevant to the video content without actually citing anything. Follow-up bot replies increase engagement and add notes of scarcity and sentimentality.
Several commenters downwind called it out, but most won't read all that.
This has the same energy as all the stickers around the GTA "[SoundCloud Rapper] Is Coming"

Ok, so a spammer has sent spam to a bunch of people without hiding the To: list.
Now... someone who has a brain would just delete the spam and carry on.
One can dream, right?
Because in reality, some of the spammer's victims are now spamming the entire group of victims with messages saying:
"Remove me from this spam!!!11!!11!!eleventy!!!11!!"
How the fuck do they think this works???? You ask the spammer, and the spammer obligingly removes you? Really? Or did you just give reason to the spammer to try other tricks on you?

Well, I did ask them if they would actually bother to answer the (still outstanding) data protection request if they wanted me to treat things as a priority, and the #spammer said no... So I guess I can drag my feet a bit on this 😕

Also, now this is affecting them, the #spammer wants me to "treat this as a priority"... I'm kind of inclined to treat it with the same priority as they have been treating my data protection request that I made 15 months ago.

Latest email from a #spammer: We just found out that you've got a #court #judgement against us, we're very upset because we didn't see any of the correspondence, since it was sent to our registered address instead of trading address.
I'll just get out the tiniest violin for a company that apparently didn't think they needed to bother reading legal documents sent to their registered address?!
(Also didn't think that they needed to comply with data protection legislation... there's a theme here)

I've never really used it.
I decided to unsubscribe from their shit emails. (Yes, yes, I should have done this years ago.)
They say it may take 10 days to process. I reply "fuck your 10 days."
Now they can no longer contact me, about anything whatsoever.

I don't go after people who make posts on their timeline for donations, but sending me a DM out of the blue asking for money is a sure way to get suspended.
