Okay, this is a pretty damned amazing personal website. The creator is Yann-Edern Gillet, a software designer at Linear. Absolutely beautiful.

★★★★★ One of my favorite regular reads of the week. Lots of golden nuggets, hand-curated by one of the greats. Well worth your valuable time.

First it was the ol' good del.icio.us, and now #Pocket is shutting down. So here we go again, looking for a new home. After a quick Saturday morning search, #GoodLinks and #Anybox are my top picks 🤓

Last week, Mozilla announced their plans to shut down Pocket.
I spent the weekend exploring alternatives to see which ones match my needs and wrote about what I found in my blog.
A lot of options! And while not all met my needs, they may be good options for you.

Anybody have any favorite self-hosted bookmark apps? I'm looking into #Linkding for its small footprint and active community.
I recently tried to switch from #Pinboard to #GoodLinks and I'm not super happy with it.

For anyone following this, it looks like my answer is #readeck. The interface is #accessible, it does full text search, it archives pages, it has a browser extension, it works with #miniflux, it does the same kind of read/unread tracking that I wanted from #goodlinks, and it plays well with the rest of my things. Thanks so much to @readeck for making sure to build an interface that is fully #screenreader accessible. The only thing I'm lacking is an #IOS app. And the ability to share some labels publicly would also be neat. But otherwise, Readeck is perfect for my use-case. If you're a #blind person who wants a demo account to test it out and see if it works for you without going through all the bother of installation and set-up, send me a direct message. #a11y

I'm still on the hunt for a good self-hosted link manager. #Goodlinks is okay, but only on IOS and mac, not windows. #linkwarden uses hover for, like, everything, making it almost completely inaccessible. #Hoarder has basically no labeled buttons or links. I want something that's #accessible, cross-platform, #selfhosted, will archive pages, and offers full-text search. Three quarters of the time when I use Google, I'm just searching for something I already know about. In an ideal world, a selfhosted link/bookmark manager would reduce my dependence on big-tech search engines. Maybe #archivebox? But that looks like it's more about storing the data than actually doing anything useful with it like search or tagging or whatever. #a11y

So I'm still looking for the ideal #bookmark manager and reading list. I really like #goodlinks on #IOS: it's #accessible, does a perfect job at getting website titles and descriptions, and is easy to get stuff into. I can even put stuff into it from the Browser extensions on Windows. However, I can't view my goodlinks bookmarks on #Windows. Safari's reading list has the same problem, of course. I tried #Pocket from Mozilla, but the #a11y of the app on all platforms is kind of a bit janky. I tried hoard, and it was fine on Desktop, but the IOS app is completely inaccessible. I tried grimoire, but it has no import function, and no apps. I looked at Raindrop, but I really don't want to pay for a bookmark manager. I wonder if I can automate goodlinks export to iCloud, and then I guess write something on Windows to consume the json file it spits out? I really just want Goodlinks to have a windows app because it's otherwise perfect.

GoodLinks 2.0 looks quick promising after some initial testing, but I’ll pause further testing until support for actual content sync has been implemented (it’s coming according to the developer).

Wow. Today I had been wishing #GoodLinks would support highlighting, and was working on alternatives because it didn’t. I spent hours writing AppleScripts for another app.
And then, just now, they release an update that features highlighting.
This might be the app we’ve been looking for.

I don't think I use any of the social, automation, or integration features of #Pinboard anymore, and the site and app ecosystem has languished for so long. Is it time to switch to #GoodLinks?

Trying something new to move away from my typical 300+ browser tabs situation. I’m giving #goodlinks a try to change up my workflow to get back to how I used to use del.icio.us.
