    > I wonder if Linkwarden is the right tool for my taste

Have you looked into Zotero? It's designed for academic use (my friend used it while writing their PhD thesis) and may be over-engineered for your needs. But it's Free Code (AGPL), both client and server AFAIK, and development is supported by charging a subscription for an (optional) online backup for your local-first Zotero database a commercial service.

  10. Do I know anyone who uses (and maybe even self-hosts) #Linkwarden? linkwarden.app/

I am looking for a way to organize ~5000 bookmarks and ~35000 (no typo) read it later items.

Does anyone here have an opinion? Is it "good"? Does it have pain points you already discovered?

WordPress : Le plugin Wayback Machine Link Fixer redirige automatiquement mes liens morts vers l'Internet Archive.

  12. I've been running linkwarden.app/ myself and have been pinging a local tiny gemma3b model to auto-generate tags for every link I've saved. That works, but the model (and the prompt) are a little too permissive to my liking. I let claude figure out how to clean that up while I think about the prompt, so here's a bunch of python scripts that it came up with:

    github.com/roelven/linkwarden-

I still have ~100 tags on 5k links, so I've got some more cleaning to do, but it's a great start. Hope this helps someone!

  21. CW: CW for sysadmins: chaotic energy / puzzling actions by a self-hosting newbie

Mentally tired after the week I've had.

I must have installed/uninstalled #Sharkey at least 9 times... and even when I got it to work it proved to be a total lemon.

Ditto for #Wallabag (paid plan on their server) and my self-hosted #Linkwarden.

🦇 This is my self-hosting cursed week 👻

I finally got Sharkey to work because I switched to a managed instance (https://calckey.world). And then I got my collection of links to work on #Linkwarden when I switched to their managed instance (there's a clear pattern here, LOL).

Then yesterday I tried CasaOS. A little too simple for my taste and with NO security in place / no instruction to add Let's Encrypt certs (as far as I could tell). When I read it's a Chinese project I kind of bolted (no offense to them, but I like to keep my stuff in Europe).

Then today I tried Cloudron and could not set it up.

Then I spun up another Ubuntu server to manually install Ghost v6 and couldn't figure out how to configure the caddy file.

Since Wednesday I must have started and stopped at least 7 servers on #Hetzner. My usage is still ridiculously low (1.19 Euros for the past 30 days) but I'm afraid I'll get flagged for suspicious behavior, LOL. I promise I'm not shady, I'm just an awkward newbie.

In all this, I am now EXTREMELY GRATEFUL for how easy and clear it is to set up a #YunoHost system.

The security they offer right off the bat is awesome... as well as the clear instructions about how to edit DNS records, install Let's Encrypt certificates and the whole nine yards.

YUNOHOST has no equivalent when it comes to empowering newbies and I'm just so so grateful to them... and I look forward to writing a step-by-step installation guide for newbies.

Apologies to sysadmins if this post had triggered you. I completely understand its chaotic energy... to be fair it's the first time in 10 months that I attempt to do so many things.

Anyway, off to get dressed for Halloween now.

Wishing you all a lovely evening and weekend 🎃

  24. Will have to update my #linkwarden incrementally from v2.11.5 to v2.12.2.

I use linkwarden to store links from my blog articles via a custom wordpress plugin which I have hacked together using #chatgpt #asca

I am sure that doing the update incrementally makes more sense than jumping a few versions in between.

  25. ⚡️Linkwarden: The Self-Hosted Bookmark Manager That Solved a Problem I Didn’t Know I Had

Thank you, Linux Unplugged and Jupiter Broadcasting @ironicbadger, for introducing me to Linkwarden—a FOSS gem that will change how I save, share, and preserve the web.

Like many of you, I’ve been using browser bookmarks for years. I’d save articles, tutorials, and interesting links, only to find them gone when I finally got around to reading them. Link rot is real, and it’s frustrating. But until I heard about Linkwarden linkwarden.app/ on Linux Unplugged jupiterbroadcasting.com/, I didn’t realize how much I needed a better solution.

I used to think, “Browser bookmarks are fine,” and honestly, backing them up manually from time to time isn’t a real trouble—just a slight inconvenience. My problem is that I experience massive link rot when looking into two-year-old links, often with interesting subjects on small sites—they are often just gone when I want to recall them. The problem is that saving the link isn’t saving any of the information.

But Linkwarden @linkwarden isn’t just another bookmark manager—it’s a preservation powerhouse, a collaborative hub, and a self-hosted dream. And thanks to the folks at Jupiter Broadcasting, I now understand why it’s a game-changer.

I haven’t started hosting it yet, but I definitely will, and I hope some of you out there will find it useful too.
Thanks to @daniel31x13 for making a awesome tool :heart_cyber: ⚡️.

  30. Luckily, this year I bought a second hand mini PC for to #SelfHost some services, mainly Forgejo for work given decreases in BitBucket limits and GitHub enshittification.

I'm running a #LinkWarden container on that machine, and I have to say that I dig it. Browser agnostic, centralized hosting on my machine. It's hooked into my tailscale, so if I need to see it away, I just pop on my tailnet and it's right there.
