  1. First 86, now #BlackLagoon?!

Ever since #Crunchyroll and #Funimation merged, I knew they weren't going to be able to hold onto all the series that each company had licensed pre-merger, but still.

  2. Thank goodness that #Crunchyroll is using the #Funimation Blu-ray masters for #TerrorInResonance, which means English credits!

  4. Watching the English dub of #PsychoPass S3 made me want to imagine an alternate universe where the series became a household name through a bigger push by #Funimation back in 2012 and a #Toonami broadcast in 2013, when the English dub of S1 came out.

  5. With the recent Bloomberg article and this, I'm starting to think that the Japanese licensors for the #anime that didn't survive the #Funimation migration to #Crunchyroll are just biding their time until the latter company loses the rights to those anime to take them elsewhere.

  6. Man, this hurts. #Funimation played a huge role in making #anime accessible here in the US. Whether it was TV, home video, or streaming, Funimation paved the way for anime's mainstream appeal. I will always remember being told, "You should be watching". Yes, some of the decisions they've made have been terrible, but they've certainly done a lot more good than harm for the industry. Rest in peace, Funimation. You will be missed.

  7. Funimation's #anime streaming service has officially shut down. With that, #Funimation as a brand is now officially defunct.

    Funimation.com now redirects to #Crunchyroll.

    (Not an April Fools joke)

Today's the last day of Funimation's existence as a service (and a brand). If you have Funimation Digital Copies, make sure that you transfer them to another service! Here's how you can do that:

  9. In today's "be sure to own actual digital or physical copies of your stuff" news, Sony claims it's offering subs "appropriate value" for deleting their digital libraries.

NEVER rely on companies to keep stuff. They do NOT care, and your stuff will be gone.

    You gotta do it yourself.

Grab it and put it on your computer or a thumb drive.

  11. (1/4) Обратил внимание, что на фоне участившегося отъёма цифровых покупок (самое свежее: после слияния #Crunchyroll и #Funimation) всё чаще звучит мысль "никакой цифры, только физические носители!"

Кристофер Нолан вещает этот же тезис: youtube.com/watch?v=hC25mKvYrT

  12. Loyal #Funimation subscribers face account migrations, increased fees, and vanished digital #anime libraries when the streaming service shuts down.

  13. #Funimation Digital Libraries Were Supposed to Last ‘Forever.’ Soon They’ll Disappear

The popular #anime streaming service is merging with #Crunchyroll. When it does, not all purchased TVs and shows will make the jump.

  14. I still remember to this day thinking "You can not make this up" when the first thing that I heard about being "unpurchased" from folks' digital libraries in what has now come to be known as a factor of #Enshittification was in fact a #Kindle publication of #NineteenEightyFour. And even back then, #Amazon was very careful to say that the "purchases" were to have been fully refunded. Somehow I doubt that #Sony will refund folks for library purchases of former #Funimation customers being absorbed into #CrunchyRoll. We desperately need more #ConsumerProtection but it's not likely to happen because that's not where the money is to be made, unfortunately.

  15. CW: Funimation shutting down

Well that's certainly surprising or not so surprising... Sony announced that Funimation is shutting down for good.

"Funimation is officially ending the service of its app and website on April 2, 2024."

Funmation was doing a merger with Crunchyroll, and all existing customers who are/were on Funimation are being transferred over to Crunchyroll, however many people will lose access to some of their digital purchases of paid content since that won't transfer over in the merger, plus missing shows too.

It's also not like Funimation has had a good rep over these last few years which involves certain female voice actors who've made very outlandish and inappropriate comments towards anime fans at conventions when asked certain questions, then those same female VA's whole case thing trying to indite Vic Mignogna as some sex predator where most of it was made up entirely because they had a grudge/vendetta against them. Then there's the Script Flipping issue by altering the works and context and dialogues of the original artist's work when localizing into English from Japanese to fit their own personal agenda and political correctness, people in Japan saw this and weren't happy about it either.

  16. Speaking as someone who's "bought" some videos on Amazon (so I know I'm included in the people I'm addressing):

If you don't have it on physical media of some sort*, then you don't own it! You are merely renting it for a while. Maybe a long while, but it *will* eventually come to an end.

    * doesn't have to be optical; files on your hard drive work fine

  18. So, "Funimation" digital content is also gonna be removed.

As with the intended removal of stuff on Sony's store before, I'm sure they're all on the legal side and shit, but again, owning "streaming stuff" means you own NOTHING.

Better make sure to get your stuff otherwise.

"We appreciate your understanding" my ass!

  19. Once a long time ago, #Funimation was a client of @nodebb. Right from the start their migrated forum was a hit, with many users posting actively from day 1.

Alas, the good times were not to last as they migrated away from #forums (to Discord) soon afterwards.

I'm not going to posit that them migrating away from forums was a sign of their doom (what proof do I have? hah!), but it's still sad to see former clients sail off into the sunset.

  21. TL:DR: Crunchroll acquires Funimation catalog. Folks who bought digital Funimation titles will no longer have access to those digital titles.
