The maples have already started blooming & we're not to far from the cherry, crab apple, pear, & the other flowering trees starting to bloom. That put me in mind of this eastern redbud that I came across last spring. I've seen flowers coming directly out of the trunk before but don't recall seeing so many burst directly from the trunk. Kinda like they just couldn't wait, lol.

My crocuses are just starting to put out leaves. Not too long till the first flowers show up. All winter I've been posting old flower photos under #FlowerParade. Since the flowers will soon be here, thought I'd post some insect/arachnid photos since it's not too long before they show up too.

One of my favorite native wildflowers is false indigo. I'm familiar with the purple/blue variety but last summer was the first time I've run into the white variety in the wild👇 (Baptisia alba seems likely). At some point I'd like to add both varieties to my garden.

This is common hepatica or liverwort (Anemone hepatica aka Hepatica americana seems likely). It is a native to woodlands in the Northern Hemisphere. I found this little clump last spring along a woodland trail and it was my first encounter with the species. I think it's just delightful and hope to see it again this spring.

Howsa 'bout a dahlia from last year's garden?
I've been checking my corms and tubers on the reg all fall/winter. I failed to do that last year and lost some lovely dahlias to rot. Things look good this year so I should be all set to get those puppies set up and blooming this year.

This is my favorite petunia variety which I'm pretty sure is called "Night Sky". I'm going to try to add it to the garden this year but a friend told me it sells out quickly hereabouts. Hafta start checking early.

This was taken last spring in my friend's garden. In springtime the crocuses cover his entire yard, popping up from below last year's fallen leaves. It definitely inspires a feeling of renewal with the fresh plants emerging from the brown, overwintered cover. Only about 2.5 months till the 1st crocuses👍.

I planted my very first eastern prickly pear cacti this spring and to my surprise one of them bloomed. They also produced a lot of new pads so they are filling in quite nicely. Can't wait to see if they bloom this coming summer.
