  1. I had planned to remove the salad to make space for other veg since the aphids have taken a liking to it. Luckily spotted a ladybeetle roaming around and spotted the eggs. So that pot will be hatchery. #gardening #LadyBeetle

  2. I got a new visitor to my little balcony.

It's a Spotted Lady Beetle. I've never seen one before and I'm glad to have her around.

  3. @PixelNenzz thanks for commenting and sharing that you even painted a specimen of the same #species. Indeed this #ladybeetle is very photogenic due to its striking #colors.

  4. For the 5th prompt of #PrinterSolstice2526 odd: This is my 8” x 8” lino block print on delicate Japanese washi paper of a seven-spotted lady beetle, or ladybird or lady bug (Coccinella septempunctata) on a pink apple blossom. Like most blossoms it has an odd number of leaves (5) & like some lady beetles, this one obviously has an odd number of spots.

As the 12yo pointed out, not a scientist this week. minouette.etsy.com/listing/444

  5. #WellnessWednesday

Trying to name this ladybug since it showed up again 😊
Spots → Spotty → Spochy → Pochy → Pochi… which is kind of like a doggy name in Japan 🤔

Or maybe Dusty, since the close-up photos reveal it’s actually pretty dusty 🤔

Pretty sure this is the same ladybug that I found about a week ago. Looks like drinking water 🤔
    I think I should name it 🤔

  7. Today, I’ve noticed a ladybug on the corner of the mirror in the gym locker room, I took her home and placed her on the lemon tree that’s wintering in the kitchen. It’s been a couple of hours, she hasn’t moved from the spot. I’m hoping that she’d wake up in the spring and start eating the scale bugs.😘🐞✨

  8. The #22spot #ladybeetle #Psyllobora #vigintiduopunctata (#Cucujiformia) is native to Europe, Asia, and North Africa. The adults and larvae #feed #mycetophagously on #fungi, specifically on powdery #mildews. When threatened, the beetle shows #thanatosis (plays dead) and secretes a defensive secretion. M. Dillen et al. (2017) studied #multitrophic #interactions between ladybird, mildew, and #oak trees.

  9. And one more unexpected Nature encounter in #Bochum after the birds - a #beetle (sitting on a restaurant menu of all places) which I'm pretty certain is a multicoloured Asian #LadyBeetle (Harmonia axyridis) - albeit a not very common color form which I've only found exactly like this in naturfotos-naeher-hingeschaut.. CORRECTION: this is a spotted willow leaf beetle (Chrysomela vigintipunctata) I now think after discussing this case with two beetle experts!

  10. 🧵 If you listened to my micro-macro-amplifyer you could hear a "roaaarrr!" against #aphids on my rose. In German, #ladybird larvae are called Blattlauslöwen, #aphid lions.

Because of the warm winter and the terrible dryness, we have myriads of aphids. And because of farmers using more pesticides, we have less #insects and insect eating #birds. So more aphids*. Everything is #interconnected. Read ALT!

  11. Asian lady beetles doing some stuff

Saw the hordes on a hike they were all along the side of the path

after learning that they weren't lady bugs and are an invasive species I'm not really sure what to think of them.

  12. Nothing really to offer the hungry #LadyBeetle, I just gave some sugar water on the cotton ball. Maybe I’ll offer some apple core tomorrow. I know they are not that sort of bugs, but I’ve read they eat whatever is available to survive winter sometimes. 💚🐞✨💕
