One of my favorite native wildflowers is false indigo. I'm familiar with the purple/blue variety but last summer was the first time I've run into the white variety in the wild👇 (Baptisia alba seems likely). At some point I'd like to add both varieties to my garden.

This is common hepatica or liverwort (Anemone hepatica aka Hepatica americana seems likely). It is a native to woodlands in the Northern Hemisphere. I found this little clump last spring along a woodland trail and it was my first encounter with the species. I think it's just delightful and hope to see it again this spring.

Howsa 'bout a dahlia from last year's garden?

I've been checking my corms and tubers on the reg all fall/winter. I failed to do that last year and lost some lovely dahlias to rot. Things look good this year so I should be all set to get those puppies set up and blooming this year.

This is my favorite petunia variety which I'm pretty sure is called "Night Sky". I'm going to try to add it to the garden this year but a friend told me it sells out quickly hereabouts. Hafta start checking early.

This was taken last spring in my friend's garden. In springtime the crocuses cover his entire yard, popping up from below last year's fallen leaves. It definitely inspires a feeling of renewal with the fresh plants emerging from the brown, overwintered cover. Only about 2.5 months till the 1st crocuses👍.

How's about a little cacti sunshine on a cold and snowy December morning?

I planted my very first eastern prickly pear cacti this spring and to my surprise one of them bloomed. They also produced a lot of new pads so they are filling in quite nicely. Can't wait to see if they bloom this coming summer.

Likely some creature (I'm looking at you, squirrels!) jumped in/out of my planter and broke one of my lovely plains coreopsis stems so I grabbed it and some nearly spent zinnias and calendulas and made a little arrangement in an effort to re-balance the cosmos.

Been photographing flowers for the past 3 yrs. What I especially like about 🌼 photography is watching the wildflower populations shift/change from yr to yr. Lot's of fleabane this yr which is one of the 1st wildflowers (Erigeron, E. strigosus seems likely in this case) I ever ID'd. This was taken at the #IowaRiverLandingWetlandPark in #Coralville, Iowa.

The city of #IowaCity, Iowa, as well as my hometown of #Coralville have begun devoting large portion of public land to prairie restoration. The restored portions of City Park in Iowa City played host to an enormous mass bloom of prairie coneflowers aka yellow coneflowers (Ratibida pinnata) which is one of my absolute favorites👍.

Rose mallow (Hibiscus moscheutos seems likely) mass bloom at the #IowaRiverLandingWetlandPark in #Coralville, Iowa.

Rose mallow is a native wildflower and this mass bloom was quite breathtaking. I've actually purchased some bare root plants that I hope to start in my garden this year and I harvested some wild seed as well🤞.
