As a follow-up to the #murder of #AlexPretti wouldn’t it be about time that we Australians broke off the AUKUS deal and wound back what ties we have to the #dysfunctional #crazy #racist #UnitedStates?
If we really need human crewed #NuclearSubmarines, and I suspect we don’t, it would be a good move to try and get back on side with the French who could build our subs for us.
Of course we would need to build a #nuclear #reactor to produce the fuel needed, or failing that we should arrange for the #French or even the #British to refuel our subs for us when the fuel rods need replacing.
Or maybe we should concentrate on #unmanned nuclear power #drone submarines capable of working at ridiculous depths and loitering on the bottom for years, ready to kill any threatening ship or submarine when needed.
The technology is available; perhaps we could lead the world in producing our own version of such a monstrous machine. Again, we could rely on our friendly allies to refuel them for us for a price.

Wisconsin Republicans are asking voters to take away the governor’s power to unilaterally spend federal money, a reaction to the billions of dollars that flowed into the state during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Democratic Gov. #Tony #Evers was free to spend most of that money as he sees fit,🔸 directing most of it toward small businesses and economic development, 🔸angering Republicans who argued the Legislature should have oversight.
That’s what would happen under a pair of related constitutional amendments up for voter approval in the Aug. 13 primary election.
The changes would apply to Evers and all future governors and cover any federal money to the state that comes without specific spending requirements, often in response to disasters or other emergencies.Democrats and other opponents are mobilizing against the amendments, calling them a legislative power grab that would ♦️hamstring governors’ ability to quickly respond to a future natural disaster, economic crisis or health emergency.♦️
If the amendments pass, Wisconsin’s government “will become even more #dysfunctional,” said Julie Keown-Bomar, executive director of Wisconsin Farmers Union. -
It really bugs me when #ADHD is called a #neurodevelopmental #disorder [1], as disorder has negative connotations and suggests folks with ADHD are the problem. We have evidence that ADHD has been #evolution -arily beneficial to #human survival [2]. Hence, #society is #dysfunctional and allows one group to dominate #culture and discourse, glorifying an aberration of normality. #hyperfocus is too cool to be labelled anything but fantastic.

@mnl I appreciate concerns about the #fragmentation of the #fediverse. Personally, I like it. I’d never follow as #hashtag on a #monolith. I’d be buried in #noise. Even #birdsite #lists got to be too much; I went back to #RSS. And the fragmentation allows for #selfpolicing and #safeharbors. We’ve already too many examples of how #centralized #bureaucracies are #dysfunctional. So I’m happy to try it this way. Feels more #natural and #oldschool than the monoliths, to me.
