  1. Now, I'm mainly going by anecdotal evidence of this happening, but it definitely feels like it comes up often enough when people discuss giving up on the fediverse, or not being interested in joining.

And I get the need for a mechanism for deleting potentially illegal content. That makes sense, definitely important.

But maybe it's worth opening a conversation on how to better address this, because "here's a list of followers and follows you lost, good luck" is not a great solution.

Maybe after there's a way to migrate and bring your posting history, if and whenever Mastodon supports that.

"It’s been great to see all the feedback about the improvements we’ve made to topics on Threads. We’ve rolled out the ability to add up to 10 topics to your bio globally, as part of our efforts to help you show what you’re about and find conversations to join. Stay tuned for more updates on topics soon."

Test reply from #Mastodon to see if replies from the #Fediverse propagate over to the original post on #Threads

In the past (can't remember when I last tested) this has --> not <-- been the case

Haven't tested this 'reply propagation' in a long while because, frankly, I just don't care

    Tuesday 04/22/2025 07:34:56 PDT

And no, replies from Mastodon do *not* propagate back over to the original post on Threads

"Federation" between Threads and Mastodon (at least) is a fraud

(OK tech note: my main hosting domain sfba dot social #DomainBlocks Threads so I would *not* see any of this here. I *do* see this on my alt instance hachyderm dot io however...)

  11. My #domainblocks (so far, in addition to my instance's fediblocks):

    gruene.social (temp.)
    kirche.social
    mastodon.green (temp.)
    mostr.pub
    pravda.me

Seems to me the admins & mods do a pretty good job to keep the dark side where it belongs. Thank y'all!

  16. If you run a Mastodon server you probably already know about some of the existing tools for collectively managed domain blocks.

As an alternative, I created a simple Python script that lets you copy public domain blocks from servers you trust for an easy import.

Keeping your community safe should be a number one priority!

  21. If this is helpful to anyone, I recently made a tool that lets you copy blocklists from Mastodon servers that publicly share this information in a format that can be imported to your own server, if you're an admin.

A use case for this would be: I trust the admin of XYZ.social, l want to block all the same servers they're blocking.

Just yesterday the following exchange happened on the snarfed/bridgy-fed #Github,

    Here: github.com/snarfed/bridgy-fed/

Me: "I am not an instance admin. I can only block those domains which return a #Fediverse-compatible domain name from my search.

I will also note that "bsky.brid.gy" does not return any response from the Server search page at FediDB, here: fedidb.org/network"

Ryan Barrett, in response: "...if Mastodon only lets you do it after you've found an existing user on that domain, then you're right, you can't block it as a user yet. If so, that's definitely an unfortunate surprise.

He continues: "The Mastodon docs don't explain this very much ... but you might be right. If so...ugh"

    "that's definitely an unfortunate surprise"

    "if so...ugh"

    No, I *am* right

I block instances every day on Mastodon

The #BridgyFed developer himself doesn't even understand how #Mastodon #DomainBlocks work

But that's the solution we mere mortals are supposed to use?

    Dear BBC,

In light of the following article, and many more like this one, please explain to me why I shouldn't domain block your instance?

I really don't need a mouthpiece for the governing party of the UK in my news sources.
